Thermal Energy Storage in Bio-Inspired PCM-Based Systems

open access: yesEnergies
Continuous growth in energy demand is observed throughout the world, with simultaneous rapid consumption of fossil fuels. New effective technologies and systems are needed that allow for a significant increase in the use of renewable energy sources, such

Phase change materials in betonvloeren - deel I [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012

The ferroelectric transition in YMnO$_3$ from first principles

open access: yes, 2005
We have studied the structural phase transition of multiferroic YMnO$_3$ from first principles. Using group-theoretical analysis and first-principles density functional calculations of the total energy and phonons, we perform a systematic study of the ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Magneto- and Baro- Caloric Responses in Magnetovolumic Systems

open access: yes, 2015
By means of a mean-field model extended to include magnetovolumic effects we study the effect of external fields on the thermal response characterized either by the isothermal entropy change and/or the adiabatic temperature change. The model includes two

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...
