Competition of glass and crystal: Phase‐field model

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, 2023
The phase‐field model for the description of the solidification processes with the glass‐crystal competition is suggested. The model combines the first‐order phase transition model in the phase‐field formalism and gauge‐field theory of glass transition.

Phase-field-crystal study of solute trapping [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2013
In this study we have incorporated two time scales into the phase field crystal model of a binary alloy to explore different solute trapping properties as a function of crystal-melt interface velocity. With only diffusive dynamics, we demonstrate that the segregation coefficient, K as a function of velocity for a binary alloy is consistent with the ...

Phase-field-crystal models and mechanical equilibrium [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2014
Phase field crystal (PFC) models constitute a field theoretical approach to solidification, melting and related phenomena at atomic length and diffusive time scales. One of the advantages of these models is that they naturally contain elastic excitations associated with strain in crystalline bodies.

Phase field modelling of hopper crystal growth in alloys

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Here we use phase field to model and simulate “hopper” crystals, so named because of their underlying cubic structure but with a hopper-like depression on each of the six faces.

A parallelized model for coupled phase field and crystal plasticity simulation [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Methods in Materials Science, 2016
The predictive simulation of materials with strong interaction between microstructural evolution and mechanical deformation requires the coupling of two or more multi-physics models.

Development of phase-field model based on balance laws and thermodynamic discussion

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2020
In this work, a phase-field model for recrystallization is developed based on the conservation laws. There has been no attempt to develop a phase-field model of recrystallization based on the conservation laws, even though various phase-field simulation ...

Phase-field-crystal model for fcc ordering [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2010
We develop and analyze a two-mode phase-field-crystal model to describe fcc ordering. The model is formulated by coupling two different sets of crystal density waves corresponding to <111> and <200> reciprocal lattice vectors, which are chosen to form triads so as to produce a simple free- energy landscape with coexistence of crystal and ...

Unwinding of a cholesteric liquid crystal and bidirectional surface anchoring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We examine the influence of bidirectional anchoring on the unwinding of a planar cholesteric liquid crystal induced by the application of a magnetic field. We consider a liquid crystal layer confined between two plates with the helical axis perpendicular

Investigation of the Direction of Spontaneous Magnetisation at 0 K in HoCo2 and TmFe2

open access: yesSultan Qaboos University Journal for Science, 2015
The direction of spontaneous magnetisation at 0 K across a phase orientation boundary in rare-earth laves phase compounds is computed as a function of the ratio of magnetic to electrostatic interactions.
