Phase Field Modeling of Anisotropic Tension Failure of Rock-Like Materials
The tensile fracture is a widespread feature in rock excavation engineering, such as spalling around an opened tunnel. The phase field method (PFD) is a non-local theory to effectively simulate the quasi-brittle fracture of materials, especially for the ...

Phase Field Methods for Binary Recovery [PDF]
We consider the inverse problem of recovering a binary function from blurred and noisy data. Such problems arise in many applications, for example image processing and optimal control of PDEs. Our formulation is based on the Mumford-Shah model, but with a phase field approximation to the perimeter regularisation.

Phase-field method for epitaxial kinetics on surfaces [PDF]
We present a procedure for simulating epitaxial growth based on the phase-field method. We consider a basic model in which growth is initiated by a flux of atoms onto a heated surface. The deposited atoms diffuse in the presence of this flux and eventually collide to form islands which grow and decay by the attachment and detachment of migrating atoms ...

Bernaise: A Flexible Framework for Simulating Two-Phase Electrohydrodynamic Flows in Complex Domains
Bernaise (Binary Electrohydrodynamic Solver) is a flexible high-level finite element solver of two-phase electrohydrodynamic flow in complex geometries. Two-phase flow with electrolytes is relevant across a broad range of systems and scales, from “lab-on-

A practical phase field method for an elliptic surface PDE [PDF]
Abstract We consider a diffuse interface approach for solving an elliptic PDE on a given closed hypersurface. The method is based on a (bulk) finite element scheme employing numerical quadrature for the phase field function and hence is very easy to implement compared to other approaches.

Quantitative isothermal phase-field simulations of peritectic phase transformation in FeMn system
The present investigation shows quantitative results for the peritectic phase transformation of FeMn alloys utilizing phase-field simulations in 1-D and 2-D. The phase-field method used was based on an adaptation of the proposal of Folch and Plapp [Phys.

A mesoscale numerical approach to predict damage behavior in concrete basing on phase field method
In this paper, we develop a numerical approach to simulate the 2D complex damage and fracture process of quasi-brittle concrete materials. Based on the phase field theory for the case of elastic isotropic multicomponent materials and the generation ...

Accelerating fracture simulation with phase field methods based on Drucker-Prager criterion
The paper presents a framework for accelerating the phase field modeling of compressive failure of rocks. In this study, the Drucker-Prager failure surface is taken into account in the phase field model to characterize the tension-compression asymmetry ...

A Fully Coupled Thermomechanical Phase Field Method for Modeling Cracks with Frictional Contact
In this paper, a thermomechanical coupled phase field method is developed to model cracks with frictional contact. Compared to discrete methods, the phase field method can represent arbitrary crack geometry without an explicit representation of the crack
