Computational Phase-Modulated Eyeglasses
IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2021We present computational phase-modulated eyeglasses, a see-through optical system that modulates the view of the user using phase-only spatial light modulators (PSLM). A PSLM is a programmable reflective device that can selectively retardate, or delay, the incoming light rays. As a result, a PSLM works as a computational dynamic lens device.

Note on self-phase modulation and cross-phase modulation
Optics Communications, 1995Abstract It is investigated to what extent self-phase modulation and cross-phase modulation operate when a single badly mode locked laser pulse travels in a nonlinear medium. We restrict our investigation of intensity induced phase effects to those that can be measured with stationary interference patterns.

Photoelastic modulator: polarization modulation and phase modulation
Journal of Optics, 1995Photoelastic modulators are studied here as both birefringence (or polarization) and phase modulators. In the first part of this work we have determined the influences of time dependent variations of index and thickness, for an ideal modulator where oscillation is supposed to be perfectly longitudinal.

Random phase modulation in load modulated arrays
2017 IEEE 28th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC), 2017Load modulated arrays (LMAs) are gaining research attention as an attractive transmitter architecture for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. A key advantage of LMAs is that they eliminate the need for RF chains at the transmitter (consisting of DACs, mixers, filters) and use only one central power amplifier for any number of antenna ...

Phase-modulation scatterometry
Applied Optics, 2002Phase-modulation scatterometry is a metrology technique for determining, by means of a phase modulator as a key device, the parameters of gratings. The main source of error to be dealt with are the fluctuations of the phase-modulation amplitude. The grating zeroth-order reflectance modulated by the phase modulator is converted into a signal by the ...

Birefringence modulation in fiber-optic phase modulators
Optics Letters, 1994We report an unusually large birefringence modulation in fiber-optic phase modulators formed with cylindrical piezoelectric transducers when driven at a few hundred kilohertz. The magnitude of the birefringence modulation is a strong function of modulation frequency.

Phase transitions and modulated phases in lipid bilayers
Physical Review E, 1995We develop and analyze a continuum Landau theory for ordered chiral and achiral bilayer membranes. This theory contains couplings between tangent-plane orientational order and curvature that lead to ``rippled'' or ${\mathrm{P}}_{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\beta}}\ensuremath{'}}$ phases with one-dimensional height modulations and to phases with two-dimensional

Phase-only modulation of light
Optics Letters, 2020We disclose the method to obtain polarization insensitive phase-only modulation that preserves both the state and the degree of polarization of light modulated using a medium with controlled birefringence. We find that, in the double-pass configuration involving reflection from the Faraday rotator mirror, such a medium acts as the phase-only modulator.

Phase smoothing functions for continuous phase modulation
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1994In this paper, the problem of signal design for continuous phase modulation is examined. Using the performance measures of effective bandwidth and minimum distance, "optimal" signal shapes are calculated for various receiver observation intervals for full and partial response signalling.

Nonlinear continuous phase modulation
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1994A class of nonlinear CPM signals is introduced by extending nonlinear CPFSK signals to other forms of frequency pulses. The distance results and spectral properties of nonlinear CPM signals are reported. Bit error probabilities of nonlinear CPM signals are simulated in presence of adjacent channel interference. >
