The effect of noise propagation on phase noise in ring oscillators

2008 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), 2008
The assumption that the white noise sources independently affect the phase noise and jitter in ring oscillators is revisited. Propagation of jitter originating from a noise source around the ring oscillator loop and its effect on phase noise are quantified.

Noise Induced Phase Transitions

1996
Models of macroscopic systems with an infinite number of microscopic degrees of freedom perturbed by external noise can undergo sharp phase transitions which are however modified or even induced by the external noise. These non-equilibrium phase transitions exhibit the features characteristic of equilibrium phase transitions such as symmetry breaking ...

Phase and Noise

1995
A new derivation of the canonical description of optical phase is given, and it is shown that any covariant method of phase estimation (such as heterodyne phase detection) may be interpreted as a noisy measurement of canonical phase. An important example is Gaussian noise, and it is demonstrated that phase-based communication is relatively robust with ...

Noise-induced phase synchronization enhanced by dichotomic noise

Physical Review E, 2001
We study the nonlinear response of a stochastic bistable system driven by both a weak periodic signal and a dichotomic noise in terms of stochastic phase synchronization. We show that the effect of noise-induced phase synchronization can be significantly enhanced by the addition of a dichotomic noise.

Phase noise effects in QAM systems

Proceedings of 8th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications - PIMRC '97, 2002
The effects of oscillator phase noise on the performance of digital transmission systems employing QAM are investigated. The model used for the phase noise is a Wiener-Levy process which allows a moment characterization of the filtered phase noise.

Phase noise in digital frequency dividers

IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, 2004
This paper presents a physical derivation of phase noise in source-coupled-logic frequency dividers. This analysis takes into account both white and flicker noise sources and is verified on two 32/33 dual-modulus prescalers integrated in a 0.35-/spl mu/m CMOS process. Design techniques for high-speed and low-noise operation are provided.

Noise reducing phase retrieval

Applied Optics, 2015
In the context of imaging using the Hanbury Brown-Twiss effect, this paper describes a phase retrieval algorithm capable of producing high-quality images despite large amounts of noise in the coherence magnitude measurement data. Previously the problem was conceived as two distinct steps: coherence magnitude estimation, followed by image construction ...

Phase noise estimation based on direct detection using phase noise to intensity noise conversion

2013 12th International Conference on Optical Communications and Networks (ICOCN), 2013
We proposed a method to estimate the laser phase noise using the phase noise to intensity noise conversion based on the direct detection (DD) technique. It is shown by simulation that the estimated results approach when the laser line-width is no larger than 1MHz. Besides, compared with coherent detection -based phase noise estimation, the DD technique

Phase Noise Metrology

2007
As a result of a major technological trend towards high speed digital communications and circuits, phase noise turns out to be a relevant concern for scientists and engineers. This paper describes methods and instruments to measure the phase noise of oscillators, components and more complex devices in the radiofrequency and microwave bands, from ...

Demodulation of a phase-modulated noise carder

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1961
