Noise Induced Phase Transitions
1996Models of macroscopic systems with an infinite number of microscopic degrees of freedom perturbed by external noise can undergo sharp phase transitions which are however modified or even induced by the external noise. These non-equilibrium phase transitions exhibit the features characteristic of equilibrium phase transitions such as symmetry breaking ...

Noise reducing phase retrieval
Applied Optics, 2015In the context of imaging using the Hanbury Brown-Twiss effect, this paper describes a phase retrieval algorithm capable of producing high-quality images despite large amounts of noise in the coherence magnitude measurement data. Previously the problem was conceived as two distinct steps: coherence magnitude estimation, followed by image construction ...

Noise-induced phase synchronization enhanced by dichotomic noise
Physical Review E, 2001We study the nonlinear response of a stochastic bistable system driven by both a weak periodic signal and a dichotomic noise in terms of stochastic phase synchronization. We show that the effect of noise-induced phase synchronization can be significantly enhanced by the addition of a dichotomic noise.

As a result of a major technological trend towards high speed digital communications and circuits, phase noise turns out to be a relevant concern for scientists and engineers. This paper describes methods and instruments to measure the phase noise of oscillators, components and more complex devices in the radiofrequency and microwave bands, from ...

Noise-Induced Nonequilibrium Phase Transition
Physical Review Letters, 1994We report on a simple model of a spatially distributed system which, subject to multiplicative noise, white in space and time, can undergo a nonequilibrium phase transition to a symmetry-breaking state, while no such transition exists in the absence of the noise term.

This paper describes the fundamental concepts that characterize the phase modulation (PM) noise and amplitude modulation (AM) noise of electronic devices in the frequency-domain, and their relationship to tradition time-domain measures of frequency stability. The statistical confidence of the data is discussed.

Phase noise estimation based on direct detection using phase noise to intensity noise conversion
2013 12th International Conference on Optical Communications and Networks (ICOCN), 2013We proposed a method to estimate the laser phase noise using the phase noise to intensity noise conversion based on the direct detection (DD) technique. It is shown by simulation that the estimated results approach when the laser line-width is no larger than 1MHz. Besides, compared with coherent detection -based phase noise estimation, the DD technique
