Phases and phase transitions of the sphingolipids

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1995
LIPIDAT is a computerized database providing access to the wealth of information scattered throughout the literature concerning synthetic and biologically derived polar lipid polymorphic and mesomorphic phase behavior. Herein, we present a review of the LIPIDAT data subset referring to sphingolipids together with an analysis of these data.

Phases and phase transitions of the glycoglycerolipids

Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1994
LIPIDAT is a computerized database providing access to the wealth of information scattered throughout the literature concerning synthetic and biologically derived polar lipid polymorphic and mesomorphic phase behavior. The database is considered comprehensive for glycerophospholipids, glycoglycerolipids, sphingolipids and natural membrane extracts ...

Induced phase transitions in ferroelectrics with diffuse phase transition

Physica Status Solidi (a), 1981
Dielectric, thermal, electrocaloric, elastic, optical, and electromechanical properties of three ferroelectrics with diffuse phase transition (PLZT 8/65/35 ceramics, lead magnesium niobate and strontium barium niobate single crystals) are investigated in dependence on temperature and electric field strength.

Phases and phase transitions

Physics Today, 1982
In this first sentence of his seminal book “The Physics of Liquid Crystals,” Pierre Gilles de Gennes has succinctly stated the appeal that liquid crystals have for all of us working in this field. The term “liquid crystal,” in fact, refers to a number of distinct states of matter that have structural order intermediate between that of conventional ...

Plasma phase transition

Physics-Uspekhi, 2021
Abstract Recently developed experimental methods for the generation and diagnostics of nonideal plasma and warm dense matter are reviewed. Modern theoretical methods applied to solve the problem of fluid–fluid phase transitions, including the plasma phase transition, are considered.

Phase transition of YBO3

Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2007
Yttrium orthoborate crystallizes in the vaterite-type structure and has two polymorphous forms, viz. a low- und a high temperature one. DTA measurements of YBO3 confirmed a reversible phase transition with a large thermal hysteresis. The phase transition has been accurately characterized by the application of different heating and cooling rates (β ...

Spirals and Phase Transitions

1995
By a stretch of imagination we shall identify spirals with systems of interacting particles. Mimicking the formalism of Statistical Mechanics we shall then discover that spirals go through a phase transition as the “temperature” increases. The inverse critical temperature coincides with the box dimension of the spiral.

Phases, Phase Transitions

2016
In Sect. 3.7 we have derived the equilibrium conditions for thermodynamic systems. Those considerations can be further generalized. In the form of a gedanken-experiment, we divided the total system into two fictitious partial systems and therewith created a simple non-equilibrium situation.
