Frustration-induced phase transitions in the spin-S orthogonal-dimer chain

open access: yes, 2002
We investigate quantum phase transitions in the frustrated orthogonal-dimer chain with an arbitrary spin $S \geq 1/2$. When the ratio of the competing exchange couplings is varied, first-order phase transitions occur 2S times among distinct spin-gap ...

Discriminative Cooperative Networks for Detecting Phase Transitions. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2017
The classification of states of matter and their corresponding phase transitions is a special kind of machine-learning task, where physical data allow for the analysis of new algorithms, which have not been considered in the general computer-science ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

ROS-mediated damage to the core domain of HIV integrase: A molecular dynamics simulation

open access: yesAIP Advances
Using molecular dynamics simulation with reactive force-field (ReaxFF), we study the reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated damage to the core domain of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) integrase.

First Principle Study on the Z-Type Characteristic Modulation of GaN/g-C3N4 Heterojunction

open access: yesMolecules
This study investigates the stability, electronic structure, and optical properties of the GaN/g-C3N4 heterojunction using the plane wave super-soft pseudopotential method based on first principles. Additionally, an external electric field is employed to

Nuclear shape phase transitions

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
The evolution of shapes and shape (phase) transitions, including regions of short-lived exotic nuclei that are becoming accessible in experiments at radioactive-beam facilities, are governed by the shell structure of single-nucleon orbitals.

Entanglement echo and dynamical entanglement transitions

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2021
We formulate dynamical phase transitions in subsystems embedded in larger quantum systems. Introducing the entanglement echo as an overlap of the initial and instantaneous entanglement ground states, we show its analytic structure after a quench provides

Impurity Quantum Phase Transitions

open access: yes, 2004
We review recent work on continuous quantum phase transitions in impurity models, both with fermionic and bosonic baths - these transitions are interesting realizations of boundary critical phenomena at zero temperature.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.
