Underwater Coherent Optical Wireless Communications with Electronic Beam Steering and Turbulence Compensation Using Adaptive Optics and Aperture Averaging

open access: yesPhotonics
A novel approach to underwater optical wireless coherent communications using liquid crystal spatial light modulators (LC-SLMs) and an aperture averaging lens, in combination with optical phased-array (OPA) antennas, is presented. A comprehensive channel

All-optically controlled phased-array for ultrasonics

open access: yesNature Communications
Abstract The ability to dynamically shape ultrasound fields is critical for emerging applications in therapeutic ultrasound, particle manipulation and tissue engineering. While existing phased arrays provide beam steering for imaging, these newer applications require higher intensities.

Receptor‐Free Identification of Toxic Gases Enabled by Hygroscopic Aqueous Salt Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Water as a gas sensor coating sounds impossible—until it stops evaporating. Here, hygroscopic salt solutions (LiCl, LiBr, H3PO4) form non‐drying aqueous films on CNT chemiresistors under ambient air. Gases partition into these liquid layers, sometimes transforming into water, and generate salt‐specific resistance fingerprints across a four‐channel ...

The use of optical techniques for signal distribution and beam formation in phased array antennas [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The thesis examines the feasibility of using optics for signal distribution and beamforming in phased array antennas. The requirements for signal distribution in phased array antennas are identified.

Swelling‐Programmed Topographical Guidance for Dynamic Spheroid Self‐Assembly via a Mechanochemical Hydrogel Niche

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A swelling‐programmed micropatterned hydrogel guides adherent cells through a controlled transition from cell–matrix anchoring to cadherin‐mediated cell–cell compaction, enabling rapid assembly of high‐viability spheroids with defined size and morphology.

Intrinsic Photoactive Star ZnPc–Poly(glutamate) Nanoplatforms for Multimodal Glioblastoma Therapy and Brain‐Targeted Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An intrinsic photoactive star‐shaped zinc phtalocyanine‐poly(L‐glutamic acid) (ZnPc‐PGA) nanoplatform for multimodal glioblastoma (GBM) therapy and brain‐targeted elivery. A ZnPc‐PGA‐based multifunctional theranostic nanocarrier platform enables image‐guided, multimodal GBM therapy. ZnPc‐PGA nanocarriers support the integration of fluorescence imaging,

Photonic-enabled beam steering at 300 GHz using a photodiode-based antenna array and a polymer-based optical phased array

open access: yes, 2023
4470144716For wireless networks beyond 5G, directivity and reconfigurability of antennas are highly relevant. Therefore, we propose a linear antenna array based on photodiodes operating at 300 GHz, and an optical phased array based on polymer waveguides ...
