Phase, phase, phase

The Leading Edge, 2002
I have been trying for some time now to write about phase. Sounds easy enough, but the more I think about it, the less easy it gets. I think I know why. Phase is one of those technical terms that has way too many meanings attached to it. Sheriff's dictionary gives four primary definitions of the word, and no less than 20 more derivative definitions.

Archaeometric Studies on Hellenistic Period New Type Phaselis Amphorae

Arkeoloji dergisi
The primary theme of this study pertains to the archaeometric analyses and outcomes derived from a series of amphorae unearthed during the research conducted at the Phaselis Central Tower (PMK) Ceramic Dumpster (Bothros) and Amphora Production Area.

A Group of Phaselis Type 3 Amphorae by the Base of the Phaselis Central Tower: A New Pottery Dumpster (Bothros) and Amphora Production Area

Adalya. Annual of the Suna & İnan KIRAÇ Research Institute on Mediterranean Civilization
In 2021, seven test trenches were excavated by the base of the Central Tower using random sampling techniques. The purpose of the excavation was to assess the potential for conservation and landscaping projects planned for the area north of the Phaselis ...

Phases and phase transitions

Physics Today, 1982
In this first sentence of his seminal book “The Physics of Liquid Crystals,” Pierre Gilles de Gennes has succinctly stated the appeal that liquid crystals have for all of us working in this field. The term “liquid crystal,” in fact, refers to a number of distinct states of matter that have structural order intermediate between that of conventional ...

Phases, Phase Transitions

2016
In Sect. 3.7 we have derived the equilibrium conditions for thermodynamic systems. Those considerations can be further generalized. In the form of a gedanken-experiment, we divided the total system into two fictitious partial systems and therewith created a simple non-equilibrium situation.

Phase and Phase-Sequence

The Modern Language Journal, 1979
T IS the purpose of this paper to explore critically the individual steps or phases commonly postulated in foreign-language teaching (FLT), and their relations to one another. In recent years, the literature critical of much current practice in FLT has grown considerably.

Pancharatnam Phase and Berry Phase

2018
The Indian physicist S. Pancharatnam, working in quantum Optics in 1956, introduced the novel concept of a geometrical phase. Let \(H(\xi )\) denote a Hamiltonian that depends on some parameters \(\xi \), with ground state \(|\psi (\xi )\rangle \). One can define a phase difference \(\varDelta \varphi _{12}\) between two ground states \(|\psi (\xi _{1})

Phase Equilibria, Phase Diagrams and Phase Transformations

2007
Computational tools allow material scientists to model and analyze increasingly complicated systems to appreciate material behavior. Accurate use and interpretation however, requires a strong understanding of the thermodynamic principles that underpin phase equilibrium, transformation and state.
