Antibiotic Release from Biodegradable PHBV Microparticles
Journal of Controlled Release, 1998For the treatment of periodontal diseases, design of a controlled release system seemed very appropriate for an effective, long term result. In this study a novel, biodegradable microbial polyester, poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate), PHBV of various valerate contents containing a well established antibiotic, tetracycline, known to be ...

This paper reports work on extrusion foaming of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate- co-3-hydroxyvalerate) with a chemical blowing agent based on sodium bicarbonate and citric acid and calcium carbonate nucleation agent. It includes investigations in the effects of rheological behaviour of the polymer, blowing agent, nucleation agent and processing conditions on ...

Development of a layered bacterial nanocellulose-PHBV composite for food packaging.
The Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 2022Most of the current materials used in food packaging are synthetic and non-degradable, raising environmental issues derived from the accumulation of plastics in landfills/waterways.

Genetic network driven control of PHBV copolymer composition
Journal of Biotechnology, 2006We developed a detailed mathematical model describing the coupling between the molecular weight distribution dynamics of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) copolymer chains with those of hydroxybutyrate (HB) and hydroxyvalerate (HV) monomer formation.

Tissue engineered cartilage on collagen and PHBV matrices
Biomaterials, 2005Cartilage engineering is a very novel approach to tissue repair through use of implants. Matrices of collagen containing calcium phosphate (CaP-Gelfix), and matrices of poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid-co-3-hydroxyvaleric acid) (PHBV) were produced to create a cartilage via tissue engineering.

Biodegradable self‐reinforced films of poly (3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐3‐hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) and PHBV microparticles were prepared through the solvent casting method (srPHBV). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), wide angle X‐ray scattering (WAXS) and polarized optical microscopy results confirmed the nucleating effect of PHBV microparticles.

ABSTRACTTissue-engineered scaffolds with nanofibrous morphology have been shown to be effective in regeneration of tissues because nanofibers mimic the native architecture of the extracellular matrix. The unique alignment in the native tissue motivated the authors to fabricate aligned nanofibers of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV ...
