Redetermination of the structure of phenanthridine

Acta Crystallographica Section C Crystal Structure Communications, 1993
C 13 H 9 N, M r =179.22, orthorhombic, P2 1 2 1 2 1 , a=4.872 (2), b=11.526 (4), c= 15.811 (4) A, V=887.7 (5) A 3 , Z=4, D x = 1.341 Mg m -3 , λ(Mo Kα)=0.71069 A, μ= 0.07 mm -1 , F(000)=376, T=110 K, final R=0.045 for 1713 observed reflections. Phenanthridine was found to be planar in the solid state with a mean deviation of 0.002 A from the mean plane

Acridities and phenanthridines

2020
The acridine and phenanthridine chromophores both contain a central six-membered aromatic nitrogen heterocycle, with benzo rings fused onto each side. Although sulfonated and hydroxylated acridines have been synthesized, none are used as stains. The hydrophilic/lipophilic properties of the dyes under usage conditions are varied.

Spiropyrans of the phenanthridine series

Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds, 1974
The relative stabilities of the cyclic and open forms of spiropyrans of the phenanthridine series depend on the character and position of the substituents in the chromene ring and also on the polarity of the media. The structure of the open forms of the spiropyrans is closer to the limiting dipolar structure.

Synthesis of Phenanthridine Derivatives via Photolysis

The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2011
An improved photochemical method for producing the prolifically bioactive phenanthridine system is reported. A wide variety of derivatives were obtained in two steps in yields ranging from 31 to 95%.

Synthesis of Pyrrolo[a]- and Pyrrolo[c]phenanthridine Derivatives and Indolinyl and Indolylsubstituted 6-Phenanthridines

Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds, 2001
The corresponding Mannich bases have been synthesized by the aminomethylation of 6-methyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-a]- and 4-methyl-3H-pyrrolo[3,2-c]phenanthridinium iodides. The interaction of 6-chloro-phenanthridine with indoline and with 5-amino-N-acetylindoline gave the corresponding derivatives of phenanthridine.

Millimetre wave spectroscopy of PANHs: phenanthridine

Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 2007
The pure rotational spectrum of phenanthridine (C(13)H(9)N), a small polycyclic aromatic nitrogen heterocycle (PANH), has been measured from 48 to 85 GHz employing Stark modulated millimetre wave absorption spectroscopy of a supersonic rotationally cold molecular beam.

Phenanthridine alkaloids from Zanthoxylum madagascariense

Fitoterapia, 2005
Four benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids have been isolated from the stem bark of Zanthoxylum madagascariense. These compounds were identified by extensive use of NMR spectroscopy.
