Raynaud's phenomenon is episodic digital ischemia provoked by cold and emotion; it is associated with other disorders, such as Raynaud's syndrome, especially the connective tissue diseases. Recent information suggests links with Sjögren's syndrome, malignancy, and obstructive vascular disease.

Raynaud's phenomenon may be primary (idiopathic) or secondary. Primary Raynaud's phenomenon is very common in young women, especially in cool climates. Treatment of patients with primary disease is usually much more successful than treatment of patients with secondary disease. Most patients respond to conservative measures.

Propagation of a laser beam of sufficiently high power density along a path contaminated by suspended particulate matter creates an impressive visible effect due to the burning of the particles. This effect, appropriately named sparkle, may seriously hamper attempts to utilize the beam path for receiving the low level object return signal required in ...

Background: Meyerson phenomenon is an uncommon clinical condition that is characterized by an eczematous halo surrounding a preexisting melanocytic nevus and numerous other lesions. The etiology of this condition is unknown. We suggest that the mechanism is due to the interaction between CD4 T lymphocytes and increased expression of intercellular cell ...

Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) is a major cause of pain and disability in patients with autoimmune connective tissue diseases (CTDs), particularly systemic sclerosis (SSc). The clinician must perform a comprehensive clinical assessment in patients with RP to differentiate between primary (idiopathic) and secondary RP, in particular (for rheumatologists ...

Raynaud's phenomenon is a common vasospastic condition which carries a significant burden of pain and hand-related disability ( Hughes and Herrick, 2016 ). The prevalence of Raynaud's phenomenon in the general population has been reported to be approximately 5% ( Garner et al, 2015 ).

The term "addiction" has become widespread in our society. In this article, I examine the expansion of the medical addiction metaphor to numerous types of behavior. A review of the largely self-help addiction-related literature, selling tens of millions of copies per year, reveals a common path for recovery from these addictions.

Of 66 patients exhibiting Raynaud's phenomenon who have been followed from 1 to 25 years, 20 exhibited peripheral vascular disease, 35 were diagnosed as having collagen disease, 7 showed evidence of vasomotor hyperactivity, and 4 showed abnormal clumping of red blood cells or precipitation of globulin.
