Phenotypic Variation in Functional Disorders of Defecation

Gastroenterology, 2005
Although obstructed defecation is generally attributed to pelvic floor dyssynergia, clinical observations suggest a wider spectrum of anorectal disturbances. Our aim was to characterize phenotypic variability in constipated patients by anorectal assessments.Anal pressures, rectal balloon expulsion, rectal sensation, and pelvic floor structure (by ...

Phenotypic Variation in Sickle Cell Trait

Scandinavian Journal of Haematology, 1974
The proportion of haemoglobins S and A2 in 244 Nigerians with sickle cell trait was determined. Hb S was found to vary between 20 and 47.5 %, whilst Hb A2 ranged from 1.0 to 4.3 %. The variation of Hb S within families was found to be significantly less than between families.

Phenotypic variations of haptoglobin Johnson types

Human Genetics, 1969
Sera from four individuals with haptoglobin Johnson phenotypes were examined. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis revealed minor phenotypic variations between the Johnson types of two members from a Czechoslovakian family and of two unrelated Caucasians from the USA.

Phenotypic Variation of SF1 Gene Mutations

2011
Knockout of the steroidogenic factor 1 (Sf1) gene in 46,XY mice causes complete adrenal failure associated with gonadal dysgenesis, undervirilization, and persistence of mullerian ducts [1]. SF1 (NR5A1, SF1/Ad4BP/FTZF1) is a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily, and it plays a crucial role in the fetal development of the adrenal gland [2] and ...

Origins of Novel Phenotypic Variation in Polyploids

2012
Polyploid species represent a special type of organism in nature, one that can survive and compete with three or more full sets of homologous chromosomes. While less common in the animal and fungal kingdoms, polyploid species are highly prevalent in the plant kingdom.

Race and global patterns of phenotypic variation

American Journal of Physical Anthropology, 2009
AbstractPhenotypic traits have been used for centuries for the purpose of racial classification. Developments in quantitative population genetics have allowed global comparison of patterns of phenotypic variation with patterns of variation in classical genetic markers and DNA markers.

[Phenotypic variation in ALS].

Rinsho shinkeigaku = Clinical neurology, 2007
Making a diagnosis of typical amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is not a tough job, but when it comes to atypical forms of motor neuron disease (MND) which are not uncommon in clinical setting, we may have some difficulty to diagnose ALS/MND. There is striking phenotypic variation in sporadic ALS/MND, such as frail arm syndrome (brachial amyotrophic ...
