open access: yes, 1996
The structures of three protected tetrapeptides, containing the Boc-Gly-Gly-Phe-X-OMe chain, tert-butoxycarbonyl-glycy-glycl-phenylalanine-leucine methyl ester dihydrate, Boc-Gly-Gly-L-Phe-D-Leu-OMe, C25H38N4O7·2H2O, tert-butoxycarbonyl-glycy-glycl ...

Prospects for Cell-Directed Curative Therapy of Phenylketonuria (PKU) [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Frontiers Journal, 2019
Phenylketonuria (PKU) due to recessively inherited phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) deficiency is among the most common inborn errors of metabolism. Dietary therapy begun early in infancy prevents the major manifestations of the disease but shortcomings ...

Combining metabolite doping and metabolic engineering to improve 2-phenylethanol production by engineered cyanobacteria

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2022
2-Phenylethanol (2-PE) is a rose-scented aromatic compound, with broad application in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries. Many plants naturally synthesize 2-PE via Shikimate Pathway, but its extraction is expensive and low-yielding ...

High phenylalanine concentrations induce demyelination and microglial activation in mouse cerebellar organotypic slices

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2022
Phenylketonuria (PKU) is an inborn error of metabolism. Mutations in the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH)-encoding gene lead to a decreased metabolism of the amino acid phenylalanine (Phe).

Central precocious puberty in a 3 year-old girl with Phenylketonuria: a rare association? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background Central precocious puberty (CPP) and phenylketonuria (PKU) are two rare conditions, the latter being the rarer. To date, only one case featuring both these conditions has been reported, and hyperphenylalaninemia was assumed triggering CPP.

Mechanism of phenylalanine regulation of phenylalanine hydroxylase.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1990
The mechanism of phenylalanine regulation of rat liver phenylalanine hydroxylase was studied. We show that phenylalanine "activates" phenylalanine hydroxylase, converting it from an inactive to active form, by binding at a true allosteric regulatory site.

Nitrogen Economy and Nitrogen Environmental Interactions in Conifers

open access: yesAgronomy, 2016
Efficient acquisition, assimilation and economy of nitrogen are of special importance in trees that must cope with seasonal periods of growth and dormancy over many years.

The Regulatory Role of MeAIB in Protein Metabolism and the mTOR Signaling Pathway in Porcine Enterocytes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Amino acid transporters play an important role in cell growth and metabolism. MeAIB, a transporter-selective substrate, often represses the adaptive regulation of sodium-coupled neutral amino acid transporter 2 (SNAT2), which may act as a receptor and ...

The expression of stlA in Photorhabdus luminescens is controlled by nutrient limitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Photorhabdus is a genus of Gram-negative entomopathogenic bacteria that also maintain a mutualistic association with nematodes from the family Heterorhabditis.
