Orchard Management Influences Predation of Halyomorpha halys Eggs
We investigated predation of eggs of the invasive stink bug Halyomorpha halys on apple trees in conventional, organic, and extensively managed Dutch orchards. Predation exceeded 40% in extensively managed orchards but was only about 10% in conventional and organic ones. We used camera traps to reveal natural enemies that may contribute to H.

We developed and field‐validated a fully automated trap for Cydia pomonella monitoring, combining a camera with a YOLOv8 object‐detection model for remote insect identification. In controlled laboratory validation, the model showed strong performance (precision 0.77, recall 0.83), with moderate reductions under field conditions. Across six experiments,

Deep learning-based system development for black pine bast scale detection
The prevention of the loss of agricultural resources caused by pests is an important issue. Advances are being made in technologies, but current farm management methods and equipment have not yet met the level required for precise pest control, and most ...

Improvement of Pheromone Trapping in Low Density Populations of \u3ci\u3eChoristoneura Pinus Pinus\u3c/i\u3e (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) [PDF]
Pheromone baited bucket traps (e.g., Multipher) are popular as a monitoring tool for the jack pine budworm, Choristoneura pinus pinus Freeman (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), in Canada.

An Easy Method to Sample Headspace Pheromones in the Field
Females of the orb‐web spider Argiope bruennichi produces a pheromone to attract males for mating. Most of our knowledge about the pheromone and its strategical use by the females is known from the laboratory. While we have confidence in the validity of these results, we wanted to make sure and measure pheromones in the field.

In forest protection, various types of trap systems are used against spruce bark beetles to treat the foci of infested areas. Traditionally, these include pheromone traps, treated trap trees, and recently also the application of Storanet insecticide nets

A Plant‐Based Platform for the Production of Bark Beetle Pheromones
ABSTRACT Bark beetle species of the genera Ips and Dendroctonus represent a threat to forests in both North America and Europe. Under normal circumstances, these beetles recycle dying trees into nutrients, but under certain conditions, growing populations can overcome healthy tree defenses and cause severe economic loss in forestry.

A Comparison of Two Methods of Quantifying Mating Success in Low Density Gypsy Moth (Lymantria dispar) Populations [PDF]
The gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar) is a defoliating pest native to Europe and invasive to North America. The gypsy moth is subject to depressed mating success in low density populations, which may restrict spread of the forest pest.
