Philander opossum as prey of Didelphis marsupialis in a rainforest in México
Therya Notes, 2023Neotropical rainforests hold a high mammalian diversity with complex species interactions. Opossums are a common group of mammals inhabiting these forests. In México, the common opossum Didelphis marsupialis and the four-eyed opossum, Philander opossum are sympatric species in these forests.

PO41, a snake venom metalloproteinase inhibitor isolated from Philander opossum serum
Toxicon, 2003PO41 was isolated from Philander opossum serum by DEAE-Sephacel, Phenyl Superose and Superdex 200 chromatographies and showed a molecular mass of 41,330 Da by MALDI-TOF MS. Molecular masses of 81.5 and 84.5 kDa were obtained by size exclusion chromatography and dynamic laser light scattering, respectively, suggesting that PO41 is dimeric.

Two female advanced third-stage larvae of Gnathostoma turgidum recovered from the liver of one naturally infected four-eyed opossum Philander opossum pallidus collected in Oaxaca, Mexico, were morphologically examined. Because of some characteristics, the larvae do not fit into the typical advanced third-stage.

Ultrastructure of spermatozoa of the wooly opossum Caluromys philander
Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1970The fine structure of spermatozoa of the wooly opossum was analyzed with particular attention paid to morphological changes attending pairing of the spermatozoa during passage through the epididymis. Before pairing, the spermatozoa are shaped something like a carpet tack. The flat anterior face of each spermatozoon is covered by an acrosome.

Studies on helminth communities associated with didelphids are scarce; the majority of works have focused at taxonomic level. To increase the ecological knowledge of these host-parasite associations, during March (dry season) of 3 consecutive years (2013-2015) a total of 49 adults of the gray four-eyed opossum (Philander opossum) was collected in the ...

The extensor assembly in two species of opossum, Philander opossum and Didelphis marsupialis
Journal of Morphology, 1979AbstractIn considering primate and hominoid phylogeny, the fundamental position assigned to opossums is explained partially by the characteristic morphology of their hands and feet. One of the main functional features of the human hand is the ability to make a stabilized arch of the finger. Because the extensor assembly plays a key role in establishing
