HOME RANGE AND MICROHABITAT ASSOCIATIONS OF THE SOUTHERN RED-BACKED VOLE (MYODES GAPPERI) IN NEW HAMPSHIRE FORESTS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Resources, such as food and shelter, are unevenly distributed across the landscape at both macro and micro scales. Home range is one measure of space use that reflects an individual’s resource requirements (e.g., microhabitat characteristics) and ...

Patient Characteristics Associated With Outcomes After General Anaesthesia in Denmark: A Nationwide Observational Study

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 69, Issue 10, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Surgery under general anaesthesia is generally safe, although some patients are vulnerable to postoperative complications. Identifying predictors of poor outcomes after general anaesthesia in all settings is relevant for preoperative risk assessment, postoperative monitoring and patient counselling.

Cyanide Beyond Toxicity: A Systematic Review of Its Effects on Vascular Function

open access: yesBasic &Clinical Pharmacology &Toxicology, Volume 137, Issue 5, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Cyanide is widely recognized for its potent toxicity, yet evidence shows that concentrations below 1 μM may enhance cytochrome c oxidase activity and have a regulatory function. Recent findings also demonstrate that mammalian cells, including endothelial cells, produce cyanide endogenously, where it can modulate mitochondrial bioenergetics ...

The Influence of Moonlight on Activity of Woolly Opossums (Caluromys philander) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mammalogy, 1997
Activity of four radiocollared woolly opossums ( Caluromys philander ) showed an inverse relationship between moonlight and both level and duration of the activity period. However, between new moon and half-moon, both measures of activity in females remained low on average, whereas they decreased sharply in males. The influence of moonlight on activity,

Common distribution patterns of marsupials related to physiographical diversity in Venezuela [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The aim of this study is to identify significant biotic regions (groups of areas with similar biotas) and biotic elements (groups of taxa with similar distributions) for the marsupial fauna in a part of northern South America using physiographical areas ...

When Raptors Are Away, Opossums Will Play: Woolly Opossums as Carrion Feeders in Harpy Eagle Nests

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 6, November 2025.
Scavenging by New World marsupials is rarely documented. We recorded woolly opossums (Caluromys lanatus) scavenging prey remains from a Harpy eagle’s nest in central Brazil. The low overlap in activity periods between the two species may facilitate the behavior observed here.

The accelerating influence of humans on mammalian macroecological patterns over the late Quaternary [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The transition of hominins to a largely meat-based diet ~1.8 million years ago led to the exploitation of other mammals for food and resources. As hominins, particularly archaic and modern humans, became increasingly abundant and dispersed across the ...

The Role of Foxes in Transmitting Zoonotic Bacteria to Humans: A Scoping Review

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, Volume 72, Issue 6, Page 485-500, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Zoonotic diseases inflict substantial burdens on human and animal populations worldwide, and many of these infections are bacterial. An Australian study investigating environmental risk factors for Buruli ulcer in humans detected the causative agent, Mycobacterium ulcerans , in the faeces of wild foxes, a novel finding that suggests foxes may ...
