Plate convergence at the westernmost Philippine Sea Plate
Tectonophysics, 2009Abstract To understand the convergent characteristics of the westernmost plate boundary between the Philippine Sea Plate (PSP) and Eurasian Plate (EP), we have calculated the stress states of plate motion by focal mechanisms. Cataloged by the Harvard centroid moment tensor solutions (Harvard CMT) and the Broadband Array in Taiwan (BATS) moment tensor,

Kinematics of the Philippine Sea Plate
Tectonics, 1984In this study new instantaneous rotation vectors describing the motion of the Philippine Sea plate relative to surrounding plates are determined that most nearly satisfy all available geological, geophysical and seismological observations along the plate margins.

Plate tearing in the northwestern corner of the subducting Philippine Sea Plate
Journal of Asian Earth Sciences, 2013The Philippine Sea Plate (PHS) simultaneously subducts northwestward and collides eastward with the Eurasian Plate (EU) in northeast Taiwan. These two tectonic events induce high seismic activity, which makes northeastern Taiwan one of the most seismically active zones in the world.

Determination of Euler parameters of Philippine Sea plate and the inferences
Science in China Series D: Earth Sciences, 2002Euler vectors of 12 plates, including Philippine Sea plate (PH), relative to a randomly fixed Pacific plate(PA) were determined by inverting the 1122 data from NUVEL-1 global plate motion model, earthquake slip vectors along Philippine Sea plate boundary, and GPS observed velocities. Euler vectors of Philippine Sea plate relative to adjacent plates are

The formation and tectonic evolution of Philippine Sea Plate and KPR
Acta Oceanologica Sinica, 2011The Philippine Sea Plate has an extremely special tectonic background. As an oceanic plate, it is almost entirely surrounded by subduction zones with complex internal tectonic features. On the basis of enormous published literature, this paper offers a comprehensive overview of the tectonic and evolution history of the Philippine Basin and the Kyushu ...

Lateral variations in the structure of the Philippine Sea Plate
Journal of Geophysical Research, 1977Multiple-filter analysis is applied to surface waves with their paths almost entirely inside the Philippine Sea plate. The resulting dispersion data are used to study the crustal and upper mantle structures of the plate. Effort is made to examine the intraplate structural variations.

Aseismic deep subduction of the Philippine Sea plate and slab window
Journal of Asian Earth Sciences, 2013Abstract We have made great efforts to collect and combine a large number of high-quality data from local earthquakes and teleseismic events recorded by the dense seismic networks in both South Korea and West Japan. This is the first time that a large number of Korean and Japanese seismic data sets are analyzed jointly. As a result, a high-resolution

The Philippine Sea plate: A “sinking towel”?
Tectonophysics, 1972Abstract Two sub-parallel arc chains bound the Philippine Sea plate: southwest Japan, Ryukyu, Taiwan and the Philippines on the west mark the site of downthrust for the Philippine Sea plate and Izu, Bonin, Mariana, Yap and Palau that of the Pacific plate.

Abstract We propose that a change in convergence between the Pacific and Eurasian plates and the demise of the Kula‐Pacific spreading centre at ca 43 Ma resulted in an ∼40° counterclockwise rotation in shortening direction within the Eocene Shimanto accretionary prism of southwest Japan. Evidence for this interpretation comes from: (1) structural

Strike-slip intraplate earthquakes in the Western Philippine Sea Plate
Tectonophysics, 2013Abstract On 26 April 2010, a strike-slip earthquake (Mw 6.5) occurred in the Western Philippine Sea Plate. We deployed 14 ocean-bottom seismometers to record the corresponding aftershocks to acquire information regarding these intraplate events. Our results show that the aftershocks were located along two linear features that intersect with an angle ...
