The toxicity of carbofuran to the freshwater rotifer, Philodina roseola
Ecotoxicology, 2015In this study, the effects of exposing the rotifer Philodina roseola to the pesticide carbofuran were investigated. Its range of sensitivity to potassium dichromate, the acute toxicity of active ingredient carbofuran and of carbofuran dosed as its commercial form, Furadan(®) 350 SC were determined. Chronic toxicity of carbofuran dosed as Furadan(®) 350

Freshwater toxicity testing using rehydratedPhilodinasp. (Rotifera) as test animals
Environmental Toxicology, 2017Rotifers have become widely used in aquatic toxicology as a rapid screening test for toxicity. The commercial availability of diapausing embryos (cysts) have facilitated their popularity because test animals can be obtained without having to master the details of culturing.

Studies on the survival of the rotifer philodina after freezing and thawing
Cryobiology, 1967Summary The survival of the rotifer Philodina after freezing and thawing has been examined under a variety of experimental conditions. Particular emphasis was placed on obtaining maximum survival by employing the most advantageous combination of protective additive concentration and cooling rate.

Fine structure of the female genital apparatus of Philodina (Rotifera, Bdelloidea)
Zoomorphology, 1982The organization of the female genital apparatus of the bdelloid rotifer Philodina roseola was analyzed by light and electron microscopy. It differs from that of the monogononts in several respects: the gonad is paired; in each gonad, the follicular layer completely surrounds the syncytial vitellarium and the cluster of ovocytes; the cytoplasmic ...

Bdelloid rotifer are reported to play a promoting role in microbial aggregation and floc formation in activated sludge systems; however, the mechanisms involved in this process are unclear. This study explores the effect of a rotifer secretion (RS) from the species Philodina erythrophthalma on the flocculation and growth of two bioflocculation ...

α-Tocopherol increases lifespan in the rotifer Philodina
Experimental Gerontology, 1980Abstract The addition of α-tocopherol (vitamin E) to the culture medium at a concentration of 10 −4 was found to significantly extend the average lifespan of the rotifer Philodina . The oily α-tocopherol was solubilized in Tween-80 so that it would dissolve in the aqueous culture medium.

Functional morphology of the muscles in Philodina sp. (Rotifera: Bdelloidea)
Hydrobiologia, 2000Whole-mounts of Philodina sp., a bdelloid rotifer, were stained with fluorescent-labeled phalloidin to visualize the musculature. Several different muscle types were identified including incomplete circular bands, coronal retractors and foot retractors.
