Comparison of spiders (Araneae) and harvestmen (Opiliones) of 6 spruce and beech stands in Bavaria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Species richness of spiders of the floor surface and the lower trunk area is higher in beech stands than in spruce forests. The abundances of epigeic spiders are also higher in beech stands whereas trunk spiders are more active on spruce.

Terricolous Spiders (Araneae) of Insecticide-Treated Spruce-Fir Forests in West-Central Maine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Spiders of 12 families, 42 genera, and at least 62 species were captured in linear-pitfall traps placed in insecticide-treated (Sevin-4-Oil®, Dipel 4L ®, Thuricide 16B®) and untreated spruce-fIr forests of west-central Maine.

Urbanization Impacts Top Predators and Alters Biotic Interactions in Predator–Prey–Mutualistic Communities of Urban Dry Grasslands

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 1, January 2025.
We investigated multitrophic interactions involving insect‐pollinated plants, pollinators, spiders, and sand lizards in both highly urbanized and less urbanized areas of Berlin. Our findings indicate that urbanization significantly affects higher trophic levels and biotic interactions, with intertrophic relationships only observed in less urbanized ...

To pool or not to pool: Pooled metabarcoding does not affect estimates of prey diversity in spider gut content analysis

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 49, Issue 6, Page 768-778, December 2024.
To reduce the cost and workload of large‐scale gut content metabarcoding studies, we tested the performance of pooled samples versus individually processed samples in terms of information completeness. Pooled samples and individually processed samples recovered highly correlated taxonomic diversity, composition and richness of prey.
