Alienation in Marx’s Political Economy and Philosophy

It is generally agreed that the concept of alienation as used by Marx1 originated in German idealism. In this context “German idealism” is mostly equated with Hegel’s philosophy. This, however, is somewhat one-sided and prevents us from seeing the concept, and the problem behind it, in full perspective.
