Confucian constructivism: a reconstruction and application of the philosophy of Xunzi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In Part 1, I offer a "constructivist" interpretation of Xunzi's philosophy. On the constructivist view, there is no privileged description of the world.

Mechanically Adaptive Polyimide Interfaces for Stable High‐Voltage NCM–Sulfide All‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A mechanically adaptive polyimide interface dynamically stabilizes single‐crystal cathodes in sulfide all‐solid‐state batteries. By integrating robust chemical coordination with viscoelastic compliance, this smart coating suppresses parasitic reactions and accommodates cyclic volume expansion.

Hadamard Matrix Slicing Single‐Pixel Imaging: Establishing a Linear‐Array‐Inspired Paradigm for N‐fold Acceleration Single‐Pixel Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To overcome two‐dimensional modulation bottlenecks, Hadamard Matrix Slicing Single‐Pixel Imaging (HMS‐SPI) establishes an efficient one‐dimensional imaging paradigm. By slicing the traditional Hadamard matrix into one‐dimensional encoding vectors and spatially expanding them, the required measurement patterns decrease by a factor of N.

Local Polarization Unit Engineering Enables Ultrahigh Energy Density in NBT‐Based High‐Entropy Ceramic Capacitors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Herein, we demonstrate a breakthrough in dielectric energy storage by engineering local polarization units in high‐entropy multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). The optimized MLCCs achieve an ultrahigh recoverable energy density of 18.2 J cm−3 with 91% efficiency, coupled with exceptional thermal stability and fatigue resistance.

THE PHILOSOPHY OF MASTICATION [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1913
The chewing of our food is a subject of more or less interest to all of us. Beginning with the precept inculcated in every nursery, we are constantly admonished throughout life that thorough mastication is a prerequisite to health; while a rather recent school of thought contends that the whole process of bodily nutrition is markedly affected by the ...

An Embodied Paper‐Based Microfluidic Al‐Air Battery for Enduring Untethered Insect‐Scale Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a centimeter‐scale microfluidic aluminum–air battery (MFAAB) with dual‐surface anode and F−‐mediated byproduct decomposition. The design enables a high capacity of 2697.05 mAh/g Al and delivers tens of milliwatts to power LEDs, motors, and a toy car.

GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS – A SOLUTION TO WORLD HUNGER?

open access: yesHuman Research in Rehabilitation, 2013
In 2011, GM crops were grown on 160 million hectares spread over 29 countries, on all continents, marking a 94-fold increase in the area since their first commercialization in 1996, and making it the fastest adopted crop technology in recent history ...
