A Worm‐Inspired Origami Robot with Multimodal Locomotion for Adaptive Mobility in Complex Pipeline Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An origami worm‐inspired robot achieves multimodal locomotion in confined pipelines through mechatronic integration that embeds actuation, control, and communication within each origami module. Large, reversible configuration and dimensional changes enable 25 gaits synthesized by a unified framework across peristaltic, inchworm, and wheel‐rolling modes

Local Polarization Unit Engineering Enables Ultrahigh Energy Density in NBT‐Based High‐Entropy Ceramic Capacitors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Herein, we demonstrate a breakthrough in dielectric energy storage by engineering local polarization units in high‐entropy multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). The optimized MLCCs achieve an ultrahigh recoverable energy density of 18.2 J cm−3 with 91% efficiency, coupled with exceptional thermal stability and fatigue resistance.

An Embodied Paper‐Based Microfluidic Al‐Air Battery for Enduring Untethered Insect‐Scale Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a centimeter‐scale microfluidic aluminum–air battery (MFAAB) with dual‐surface anode and F−‐mediated byproduct decomposition. The design enables a high capacity of 2697.05 mAh/g Al and delivers tens of milliwatts to power LEDs, motors, and a toy car.

The Philosophy of Human Rights [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The notion of "human rights" is widely used in political and moral discussions. The core idea, that all human beings have some inalienable basic rights, is appealing and has an eminently practical function: It allows moral criticism of various wrongs and calls for action in order to prevent them.

An Energy Autonomous Microneedle Array‐Based Sensing System for Continuous Biomarker Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents an innovative self‐powered wearable biosensor system for real‐time monitoring of multiple biomarkers in interstitial fluid. The device integrates stainless steel‐based minimally invasive microneedles with ion‐selective membranes, enabling simultaneous Na+, K+, Ca2+, pH, and glucose detection.

What's Right With a Syntactic Approach to Theories and Models? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Syntactic approaches in the philosophy of science, which are based on formalizations in predicate logic, are often considered in principle inferior to semantic approaches, which are based on formalizations with the help of structures.
