A case–control study on risk factors for visceral leishmaniasis in West Pokot County, Kenya

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, Volume 29, Issue 10, Page 904-912, October 2024.

The complexities of blood‐feeding patterns in mosquitoes and sandflies and the burden of disease: A minireview

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 10, Issue 5, September 2024.
Mosquitoes and phlebotomine sandflies are infectious disease vectors through hematophagy. The development of hematophagy likely provided an evolutionary advantage, offering a rich nutrient source for reproduction. These insects exhibit diverse blood‐feeding patterns, from invertebrates to various vertebrates. Multiple sensory cues to guide host‐seeking

Case of widespread and atypical cutaneous leishmaniasis in a young woman with breast cancer

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 12, Issue 8, August 2024.
Key Clinical Message Cutaneous leishmaniasis is caused by protozoan parasites of the genus leishmania. Atypical presentation and widespread progression of the lesions may be seen in an immunocompromised patient. Experimental structure based drug design (SBDD) applications for anti‐leishmanial drugs: A paradigm shift?

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, Volume 44, Issue 3, Page 1055-1120, May 2024.
Abstract Leishmaniasis is a group of neglected tropical diseases caused by at least 20 species of Leishmania protozoa, which are spread by the bite of infected sandflies. There are three main forms of the disease: cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL, the most common), visceral leishmaniasis (VL, also known as kala‐azar, the most serious), and mucocutaneous ...

Quantifying the contribution of hosts with different parasite concentrations to the transmission of visceral leishmaniasis in Ethiopia.

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2014
BackgroundAn important factor influencing the transmission dynamics of vector-borne diseases is the contribution of hosts with different parasitemia (no. of parasites per ml of blood) to the infected vector population.
