Mutational analysis of the carbohydrate binding activity of the tobacco lectin [PDF]
At present the three-dimensional structure of the tobacco lectin, further referred to as Nictaba, and its carbohydrate-binding site are unresolved. In this paper, we propose a three-dimensional model for the Nictaba domain based on the homology between ...

Mandible composition and properties in two selected praying mantises (Insecta, Mantodea)
Abstract Insects process their food with their cuticle‐based mouthparts. These feeding structures reflect their diversity and can, in some cases, showcase adaptations in material composition, mechanical properties, and shape to suit their specific dietary preferences.

Phloem Loading in Squash [PDF]
Squash (Cucurbita pepo L. var. melopepo torticalis, Bailey) leaves were supplied with (14)C-sucrose, then specific radioactivities of the glucose and galactose moieties of translocated stachyose were determined. In every case, the specific radioactivity of the galactose moiety was greater than that of the glucose moiety.

ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Wild rice (WR), a nutritious cereal rich in phytochemicals, remains underutilized despite its health benefits. This study explored deep purple (DP), purple sun hybrid (PSH), purple haze (PH), cosmic purple (CP), and vistaric sky blue (VSB) carrot powders as fortificants in WR noodles at 10%, 20%, and 30% levels in ...

What Is Phloem Unloading? [PDF]
Several studies of phloem unloading have failed to distinguish between transport events occurring at the sieve element/companion cell boundary and subsequent short-distance transport through parenchyma cells. Indirect evidence has been obtained for symplastic unloading in storage and utilization sinks. In other sinks transfer to the apoplast may occur,

ABSTRACT Lateral root (LR) organogenesis is regulated by cellular flux of auxin within pericycle cells, which depends on the membrane distribution and polar localization of auxin carrier proteins. The correct distribution of auxin carrier proteins relies on the intracellular trafficking of these proteins aided by filamentous actin as a track.

Surface hydration‐induced damage in tight oil‐bearing sandy conglomerate reservoirs
A series of techniques such as X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive spectroscopy, conductivity tests, and infrared thermal imaging were used. The key findings are the identification of a two‐stage surface hydration process and the elucidation of the effects of various minerals and elements on the hydration process ...

Symplasmic phloem unloading and post-phloem transport during bamboo internode elongation
AbstractIn traditional opinions, no radial transportation was considered to occur in the bamboo internodes but was usually considered to occur in the nodes. Few studies have involved the phloem unloading and post-phloem transport pathways in the rapid elongating bamboo shoots. Our observations indicated a symplastic pathway in phloem unloading and post-

Application of multivariate analysis to electrical penetration graphs using manual and automate waveform recognization from the planthopper Peregrinus maidis feeding on susceptible and resistant maize [PDF]
The stylet penetration activities of Peregrinus maidis (Ashmead) (Homoptera: Delphacidae), vector of Maize mosaic virus (MMV) and Maize stripe virus (MStV) were studied by electrical penetration graphs (DC-EPG) on resistant and susceptible maize inbred ...
