In-Water Photo Identification, Site Fidelity, and Seasonal Presence of Harbor Seals (Phoca vitulina richardii) in Burrows Pass, Fidalgo Island, Washington

open access: yesOceans
Little is known about the in-water behavior and site fidelity of harbor seals (Phoca vitulina richardii), as most photo-identification (photo-ID) studies are typically conducted while they are hauled-out on land.

Management coverage and spatial gaps for carnivore habitat across Mexico

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 9, September 2026.
We evaluated the spatial overlap between four land management types and the habitat of 28 terrestrial carnivores in Mexico. Our findings reveal that non‐designated land management types like Indigenous Territories may provide significant habitat coverage, and that significant coverage gaps for carnivores remain.

Supernumerary postcanine teeth in the kuril seal (Phoca vitulina stejnegeri), the larga seal (Phoca largha) and the ribbon seal (Phoca fasciata).

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Oral Biology, 1990
The supernumerary postcanine teeth were examined in the kuril seal (Phoca vitulina stejnegeri), the larga seal (P. largha) and the ribbon seal (P. fasciata). Supernumerary postcanine teeth were found in 6.56%, 6.03% and 11.76% of them respectively. On the other hand, 1.31% of the kuril seal, 0.86% of the larga seal and 11.76% of the ribbon seal were ...

Distribution, abundance and biology of ringed seals (Phoca hispida): an overview

open access: yesNAMMCO Scientific Publications, 1998
The ringed seal (Phoca hispida) has a circumpolar Arctic distribution. Because of its great importance to northern communities and its role as the primary food of polar bears (Ursus maritimus) the ringed seal has been studied extensively in Canada ...

Avian influenza overview June–August 2026

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Between 5 June and 28 August 2026, 110 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5N1) virus detections were reported in domestic (7) and wild (103) birds in 12 countries in Europe. The number of detections remained at a seasonal low throughout the summer, continuing the decline observed since spring.

Not Quite Folded: Challenges in Predicting the hNPS‐hNPSR‐Ile107 Complex With AlphaFold2 Multimer

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 16, 27 August 2026.
AlphaFold2 Multimer guided the design of 20 novel human neuropeptide S (hNPS) cyclic analogues. Modelling bias toward the inactive state favoured receptor blockade over activation. Exploiting a stereochemical switch in the peptide hinge region yielded four potent NPS receptor (NPSR) antagonists with pA2 up to 6.20. Lines indicate conformational bridges
