Mandibular dental anomalies of Northwest Atlantic harp seals, Phoca groenlandica

Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1987
We examined 2267 harp seal mandibles to determine the frequency of extra, missing, and malformed teeth; to examine the effect of these anomalies on longevity; and to assess the usefulness of anomalies in identifying stocks of seals. Supernumerary teeth occurred in 1.7% of the seals, 0.5% of the seals were missing teeth (none because of trauma), and 0 ...

[Various properties of angiotensin-converting enzyme from the seal Phoca groenlandica].

Biokhimiia (Moscow, Russia), 1988
It was found that the molecular mass of the angiotensin-converting enzyme from seal (Phoca groenlandica) lungs determined by electrophoresis in 7.5% PAAG in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate is 150 kD. The enzyme has a pH optimum with respect to hippuryl-L-histidyl-L-leucine at 7.3--7.5; KM is 1.2 mM.

Seasonal Distribution Of Harp Seals, Phoca Groenlandica, In The Northwest Atlantic

No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author. Our understanding of the seasonal distribution and migratory behaviour of harp seals is based primarily on surveys of whelping and moulting concentrations, catch data, tag returns and anecdotal observations which may be biased by the location of the observer.

Plasma and tissue levels of dietary radiotocopherols in the harp seal, Phoca groenlandica

Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 1977
Plasma and tissue levels of dietary radiotracer-labelled tocopherols were examined in the harp seal, Phoca groenlandica. The d-α form showed much higher plasma maxima and retention than d,l-γ-tocopherol. Concentration peaks occurred somewhat later but were greater when the vitamin was fed with Tween 80 than with herring and corn oil respectively ...

Особенности пространственно-временной структуры беломорской популяции гренландского тюленя (Phoca groenlandica)
