Functional myology of the harbour porpoise, Phocoena phocoena (L.)

Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1976
The axial and pectoral musculature of the harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena (L.)) is described, using standardized nomenclature, from dissections of 12 specimens of mixed age and sex. The axial musculature consists of two main groups, epaxial and hypaxial, which can be further subdivided: the epaxials include the spinalis, longissimus, and lateral ...

Impacts of Anthropogenic Sounds on Phocoena phocoena (Harbor Porpoise)

2012
Anthropogenic underwater sound in the seas and oceans is increasing. Phocoena phocoena (harbor porpoise) is sensitive to underwater sound because of its very acute hearing, wide hearing frequency range, and high responsiveness to sounds. The detection of sounds by animals and the degree to which sounds have an effect on animals involve the ...

Hiatal Hernia in a Harbor Porpoise (Phocoena phocoena)

Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 1993
We observed the displacement of the first compartment of the stomach through the diaphragmatic hiatus into the thoracic cavity in an immature harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena). This hiatal hernia, coupled with a severe pneumonia, contributed to the emaciation and death of the animal.

Click Structure in the Porpoise, Phocoena phocoena

Journal of Mammalogy, 1969
The phonation of Phocoena phocoena consists of low intensity, narrow-band clicks usually near 2 kilohertz, produced singly or in bursts at repetition-rates as great as about 1000 per second. the higher repetition-rates show as harmonic bands in spectral analysis when relatively narrow analyzing filters are used. Many clicks contain variable emphasis at

Trace metals in the common porpoise, Phocoena phocoena

Marine Environmental Research, 1983
Mercury, cadmium, copper and zinc concentrations in brain, liver, kidney, heart and spleen of twenty-six specimens of the common porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) are presented. Mercury and cadmium levels in liver and kidneys tended to increase with length of animal, but copper and zinc levels show no such trends.

?????????????????????? ?????????????????????????? ?????????????? ????????????, Phocoena phocoena relicta (Cetacea), ?? ???????????? ????????

2009
Based on air-shooting and observation from the vessels (1970???90s), the distribution maps of harbour porpoise, ??hocoena phocoena relicta Abel, 1905 in the Black Sea during the spring-autumn period are provided and described. The opinion about the exclusively coastal distribution is refuted and their occurrence in the open waters is shown. The harbour
