Phonocardiography with a smartphone [PDF]

open access: possiblePhysics Education, 2017
When a stethoscope is placed on the chest over the heart, sounds coming from the heart can be directly heard. These sound vibrations can be captured through a microphone and the electrical signals from the transducer can be processed and plotted in a phonocardiogram.

Selective phonocardiography

American Heart Journal, 1956
1. 1. Problems dealing with the registration of either apical or basal diastolic murmurs of poor magnitude are discussed. Current methods of phonocardiography are reviewed. 2. 2. Eight normal subjects and thirty abnormal cases were studied by means of a variable band-pass filter with additional amplification.

Clinical calibration in phonocardiography

American Heart Journal, 1954
Abstract 1. 1. The need for a sound calibration with a signal which varies in accordance with the manifold causes of error of clinical phonocardiography is emphasized. 2. 2. A new, simple device is described. It is based on the production of a sound vibration of known amplitude and frequency over the chest wall and its transmission to the ...

Phonocardiography and Electrocardiography with a Smartphone

2020 43rd International Convention on Information, Communication and Electronic Technology (MIPRO), 2020
Phonocardiogram, a graphic recording of auscultatory findings of the cardiac sound vibrations, was acquired through an add-on to a stethoscope: a microphone was inserted into the stethoscope tube and connected to a smart device. Phonocardiographic data were synchronised to electrocardiogram, a recording of cardiac electrical activity, that was obtained

The renaissance of phonocardiography

Journal of Chronic Diseases, 1960
Abstract It has been suggested that cardiac auscultation and phonocardiography are presently in a period of renewed investigation. The renaissance of phonocardiography has brought forth new and valuable information and promises to yield more with time.
