Phononic glass: A robust acoustic-absorption material [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In order to achieve strong wide band acoustic absorption under high hydrostatic pressure, an interpenetrating network structure is introduced into the locally resonant phononic crystal to fabricate a type of phononic composite material called " ...

Phonon dispersions of cluster crystals [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2011
We analyze the ground states and the elementary collective excitations (phonons) of a class of systems, which form cluster crystals in the absence of attractions. Whereas the regime of moderate-to-high-temperatures in the phase diagram has been analyzed in detail by means of density functional considerations (Likos C N, Mladek B M, Gottwald D and Kahl ...

Bandgap tunability of surface acoustic waves in a two-dimensional magneto-electro-elastic phononic crystal

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2021
The propagation of surface acoustic waves in two types of tunable magneto-electro-elastic phononic crystal structures is investigated, for which Terfenol-D rods are vertically deposited on the piezoelectric substrate or embedded in the piezoelectric ...

Numerical Analysis of Viscous Dissipation in Microchannel Sensor Based on Phononic Crystal

open access: yesMicromachines, 2021
Phononic crystals with phononic band gaps varying in different parameters represent a promising structure for sensing. Equipping microchannel sensors with phononic crystals has also become a great area of interest in research.

Tacticity in chiral phononic crystals [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
AbstractThe study of vibrational properties in engineered periodic structures relies on the early intuitions of Haüy and Boscovich, who regarded crystals as ensembles of periodically arranged point masses interacting via attractive and repulsive forces.

Phonon propagation dynamics in band-engineered one-dimensional phononic crystal waveguides

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
The phonon propagation dynamics in a phononic crystal waveguide, realized via a suspended one-dimensional membrane array with periodic air holes, is investigated as function of its geometry.

Magnetic Control of Chiral Hybridized Phonon Magnetic Moments in Ferrimagnets Fe2‐xZnxMo3O8

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Helicity‐resolved magneto‐Raman spectroscopy reveals magnetic control of chiral phonon magnetic moments in polar ferrimagnet (ZnxFe2−xMo3O₈). Large spontaneous zero‐field phonon splittings, selective phonon–magnon coupling, and asymmetric Zeeman responses demonstrate that phonon chirality is governed by magnon‐phonon coupling and magnetization.

Chiral Microneedle Arrays With Terahertz Chiroptical Activity With Chiral‐Plasmon‐Chiral‐Phonon Resonance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microneedle arrays (MNAs) is a rapidly emerging technology with broad biomedical applications in drug delivery and biosensing. With sub‐millimeter dimensions and periodicity, MNAs possess geometries nearly ideal for biomedical devices operating within the terahertz (THz) spectral window.
