Effect of Sevelamer on Calciprotein Particles in Hemodialysis Patients: The Sevelamer Versus Calcium to Reduce Fetuin-A-Containing Calciprotein Particles in Dialysis (SCaRF) Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesKidney International Reports, 2020
Introduction: Calciprotein particles (CPPs) are potentially modifiable mediators of phosphate toxicity in patients with kidney disease. We compared the effects of calcium carbonate (CC) and the non–calcium-based phosphate binder sevelamer on CPP levels ...

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Predictors of response and rational combinations for the novel MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665 in acute myeloid leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the responses of primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patient samples to the MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665. The results revealed that monocytic differentiation is associated with MIK665 sensitivity. Conversely, elevated ABCB1 expression is a potential biomarker of resistance to the treatment, which can be overcome by the combination ...

The Effects of Polymer–Nitrogen Fertilizer on Biomes in Drip-Irrigated Wheat Soil

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Polymer application combined with nitrogen (N) fertilization can increase soil N transformation efficiency. However, the mechanism of polymer influencing soil biocommunity characteristics and nitrogen transformation is still unclear.

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).

Correlation of serum fibroblast growth factor-23 levels and calcium phosphate products levels in chronic kidney disease; sub analysis of chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nephropathology
Introduction: The body produces fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) to maintain normal phosphate levels when hyperphosphatemia occurs. Production of FGF-23 indirectly causes hypocalcemia.

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Temporal nutrient dynamics in the Mediterranean Sea in response to anthropogenic inputs

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2016
The temporal dynamics of the concentrations of nitrate (N), phosphate (P), and the N:P ratio in the upper water column (200–600 m) of the Mediterranean (MED) Sea were investigated using observational data (~123,100 data points) collected between 1985 and

Intein‐based modular chimeric antigen receptor platform for specific CD19/CD20 co‐targeting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CARtein is a modular CAR platform that uses split inteins to splice antigen‐recognition modules onto a universal signaling backbone, enabling precise, scarless assembly without re‐engineering signaling domains. Deployed here against CD19 and CD20 in B‐cell malignancies, the design supports flexible multi‐antigen targeting to boost T‐cell activation and

Optimization of Data Processing Minimizes Impact of Self-Absorption on Phosphorus Speciation Results by P K-Edge XANES

open access: yesSoil Systems, 2019
Bulk soil phosphorus speciation by X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) using fluorescence yield-mode measurements is an important tool for phosphorus research because of the low soil P contents.
