Alterations and mechanistic insights of gut microbiota and its metabolites in type 2 diabetes mellitus and Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
This narrative review uniquely addresses how gut microbiota‐derived metabolites mediate overlapping pathologies of insulin resistance, neuroinflammation, and amyloidogenesis in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and Alzheimer's disease (AD), proposing a framework for dual therapeutic targeting.

Mechanisms of lipid malabsorption in Cystic Fibrosis: the impact of essential fatty acids deficiency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Affiliation: CHU-Sainte-Justine, Université de MontréalTransport mechanisms, whereby alimentary lipids are digested and packaged into small emulsion particles that enter intestinal cells to be translocated to the plasma in the form of chylomicrons, are ...

Hydroxysteroid 17β‐dehydrogenase 13 (Hsd17b13) knockdown attenuates liver steatosis in high‐fat diet obese mice

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Hydroxysteroid 17β‐dehydrogenase 13 (HSD17B13) loss‐of‐function gene variants are associated with a decreased risk of metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Our RNA‐seq analysis of steatotic liver from obese mice ± fenretinide treatment identified major beneficial effects of fenretinide on expression of hepatic genes

Neural Metabolic Networks: Key Elements of Healthy Brain Function

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 169, Issue 6, June 2025.
This review originated from the Fourth International Society for Neurochemistry (ISN) and Journal of Neurochemistry (JNC) Flagship School (2022). Here, we describe how the specific bioenergetic profiles and metabolic exchanges between brain cells enable and gate synaptic function and behavior. Then, based on this analysis, we discuss the potential role

Role of Esrrg in the Fibrate-Mediated Regulation of Lipid Metabolism Genes in Human ApoA-I Transgenic Mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We have used a new ApoA-I transgenic mouse model to identify by global gene expression profiling, candidate genes that affect lipid and lipoprotein metabolism in response to fenofibrate treatment.

Micrometer‐Sized Liposome‐Based Systems: A Hierarchical Breakdown

open access: yesChemSystemsChem, Volume 7, Issue 3, May 2025.
Micrometer‐sized liposomes (MSLs) are gaining attention for various applications, from biophysical cell models to molecular robots. Despite their growing importance, reviews on MSLs across disciplines are scarce. This review fills the gap by providing a systematic overview of MSL design, from applications to functionalization and to formation, aimed at

Review article

open access: yes, 2019
In eukaryotic cells, the trans-Golgi network (TGN) serves as a platform for secretory cargo sorting and trafficking. In recent years, it has become evident that a complex network of lipid-lipid and lipid-protein interactions contributes to these key ...

Differential Expression of Intestinal Genes in Opossums with High and Low Responses to Dietary Cholesterol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
High and low responding opossums (Monodelphis domestica) differ in their plasma very low density lipoprotein and low density lipoprotein (VLDL+LDL) cholesterol

Drug‐Based Lifespan Extension in Mice Strongly Affects Lipids Across Six Organs

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 5, May 2025.
Using six interventions that have previously shown to differentially increase lifespan in male and female mice, we here show significant metabolic changes across organs, sex and metabolic pathways. Specifically, lipid responses were prominent across organs, but also in a sexually dimorphic manner.

Metabolism and Translocation of Aminophospholipids in Mammalian Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this study we investigated the metabolism, i.e. remodeling and translocation, of the aminophospholipids phosphatidylserine (PS) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). A new method for introduction of exogenous PS and PE molecular species to cultured cells
