Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 19, Issue 8, Page 2249-2269, August 2025.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.

Predicting the Proteins of Angomonas deanei, Strigomonas culicis and Their Respective Endosymbionts Reveals New Aspects of the Trypanosomatidae Family [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Endosymbiont-bearing trypanosomatids have been considered excellent models for the study of cell evolution because the host protozoan co-evolves with an intracellular bacterium in a mutualistic relationship.

Extracellular Vesicles From Limosilactobacillus johnsonii Enhance Milk Fat Synthesis by Inducing CD36 Dynamic Palmitoylation and Activating PPARγ Signalling

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2025.
Extracellular vesicles from Limosilactobacillus johnsonii reach the mammary gland through the gut‐mammary axis, where their palmitic acid (C16:0) induce the dynamic changes in CD36 palmitoylation in mammary epithelial cells, thereby facilitating fatty acid uptake as substrates and enhance milk fat synthesis in HC11 cells via PPARγ signalling.

Review article

open access: yes, 2019
In eukaryotic cells, the trans-Golgi network (TGN) serves as a platform for secretory cargo sorting and trafficking. In recent years, it has become evident that a complex network of lipid-lipid and lipid-protein interactions contributes to these key ...

Short‐Term Severe Energy Restriction Promotes Molecular Health and Reverses Aging Signatures in Adults With Prediabetes in the PREVIEW Study

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 8, August 2025.
Severe short‐term energy restriction in adults with prediabetes led to a significant reduction in circulating proteins linked to inflammation, senescence, and protein turnover. These changes, partly mediated by extracellular vesicles, suggest systemic dietary‐induced benefits beyond glycemic control, including improved aging biomarkers.

Hydroxysteroid 17β‐dehydrogenase 13 (Hsd17b13) knockdown attenuates liver steatosis in high‐fat diet obese mice

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 110, Issue 8, Page 1071-1086, 1 August 2025.
Abstract Hydroxysteroid 17β‐dehydrogenase 13 (HSD17B13) loss‐of‐function gene variants are associated with a decreased risk of metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Our RNA‐seq analysis of steatotic liver from obese mice ± fenretinide treatment identified major beneficial effects of fenretinide on expression of hepatic genes

Insect Lipids as Novel Source for Future Applications: Chemical Composition and Industry Applications—A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 7, July 2025.
Fat body (FB) acts as a major metabolic center important for the regulation of a variety of physiological processes such as embryogenesis, reproduction, flight, overwintering, protection, and communication. Lipid amounts and fatty acid (FA) composition vary with species, stage of life, and their diet.

Lipid partitioning at the nuclear envelope controls membrane biogenesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Partitioning of lipid precursors between membranes and storage is crucial for cell growth, and its disruption underlies pathologies such as cancer, obesity, and type 2 diabetes.
