Use of Hydration Inhibitors to Improve Bond Durability of Aluminum Adhesive Joints [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
An investigation is conducted of the mechanisms by which nitrilotris methylene phosphonic acid (NTMP) and related compounds are adsorbed onto oxidized aluminum surfaces to inhibit hydration and increase the durability of adhesive bonds formed with ...

Nitroxide‐Mediated Polymerization Synthesis of Geminal Bisphosphonate‐Functionalized (Co)polymers and Their Affinity to Hydroxyapatite Surface

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
A novel styrenic monomer bearing gem‐bisphosphonate groups is synthesized in a single step. The nitroxide‐mediated (co)polymerization of this monomer proceeds in a well‐controlled manner, yielding bisphosphonate‐functionalized (co)polymers with low dispersity.

Soil properties and road proximity likely influence plant and bacterial traits and diversity more than habitat size in small urban greenspaces

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
The global decline in biodiversity can be partly ameliorated by sympathetic design of green spaces within urban environments. This includes roundabouts on road systems. This study utilised a combination of approaches to assess levels of plant and bacterial diversity in roundabouts of varying size, soil characteristics and habitat complexity.

Synthesis and proton conduction properties of lanthanide amino-sulfophosphonates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Acidic groups-containing metal phosphonates exhibit a wide range of proton conductivity depending on the water content and functionality. Moreover, this property can be enhanced by appropriate post-synthesis chemical and/or thermal treatments [1,2 ...

Structure and functional genes associated with carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur cycling processes in periphyton: A comparison between natural and artificial rivers

open access: yesRiver, EarlyView.
Network analysis of functional genes among prokaryotes, and eukaryotes in natural and artificial rivers. Abstract Periphyton in aquatic ecosystems plays vital roles in the elemental cycle process and is vulnerable to anthropogenic interference. However, few studies have explored the elemental cycles of carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and ...

Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles‐Based Formulations for Enhanced Oral Delivery of Peptide Drugs: A Case Study on Insulin

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This work explores the tailored functionalization of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) to improve the oral delivery of insulin, as a case study. Insulin confinement within silica mesopores increased drug solubility, and co‐formulation with succinylated β‐lactoglobulin yielded pH‐responsive tablets that limited gastric release and proteolysis, while
