Structure and Internal Motions of a Multifunctional Alcohol-Water Complex: Rotational Spectroscopy of the Propargyl Alcohol···H2O Dimer.

Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2021
We have studied the rotational spectra of the propargyl alcohol (PA)-water complex using a pulsed-nozzle Fourier transform microwave spectrometer. A hydrogen-bonded ring structure is observed.

A Sterically Tuned 2-Fluoropyridinium Salt for the Catalyst-Free, Visible-Light-Mediated Deoxygenation of Alcohols via an Electron Donor-Acceptor Complex.

Organic Letters
We here report the use of a sterically tuned 2-fluoro-1-methylpyridinium salt for the catalyst-free, visible-light-mediated deoxygenative transformation of alcohols through alkoxypyridinium intermediates.

Selectivity Effects of Hydrogen Acceptors and Catalyst Structures in Alcohol Oxidations Using (Cyclopentadienone)iron Tricarbonyl Compounds

Journal of Organic Chemistry
Oppenauer-type oxidations are catalyzed by air- and moisture-stable, sustainable, (cyclopentadienone)iron carbonyl compounds, but the substrate scope is limited due to the low reduction potential of acetone, which is the most commonly used hydrogen ...

Thianthrenation‐Enabled Cyanomethylation of (Hetero)Arenes With 2‐Azidoallyl Alcohols via Electron Donor–Acceptor Complex Photoactivation

Advanced Synthesis & Catalysis
A catalyst‐free approach for the cyanomethylation reaction of thianthrenium salts with 2‐azidoallyl alcohols via electron donor–acceptor complex photoactivation using DABCO as the electron donor is herein described.

An Electron Donor-Acceptor Complex-Driven Strategy Enables Initiation of Photoiniferter RAFT Polymerization from Amines, Carboxylic Acids, and Alcohols.

Journal of the American Chemical Society
Here, we report a unified approach for the photoiniferter RAFT polymerization technique allowing the utilization of organic molecules with the most ubiquitous functional groups (amines, carboxylic acids, and alcohols) as initiators without significant ...

Programmed Charge Transfer in Conjugated Polymers with Pendant Benzothiadiazole Acceptor for Simultaneous Photocatalytic H2O2 Production and Organic Synthesis.

Angewandte Chemie
While being important candidate for heterogeneous photocatalyst, conjugated polymer typically exhibits random charge transfers between the alternating donor and acceptor units, which severely limits its catalytic efficiency.

Tolerance zones: a pragmatic approach to respond to problems related to open alcohol and drug scenes in Bremen/Germany

Drugs and alcohol today, 2021
Purpose This study aims to describe and analyse an approach in the city of Bremen (Germany) to establish streetwork-supported tolerance zones for local open drug and alcohol scenes to reduce related disorder and nuisance in public spaces.

A pH-dependent shift of redox cofactor specificity in a benzyl alcohol dehydrogenase of aromatoleum aromaticum EbN1

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology
We characterise a reversible bacterial zinc-containing benzyl alcohol dehydrogenase (BaDH) accepting either NAD^+ or NADP^+ as a redox cofactor. Remarkably, its redox cofactor specificity is pH-dependent with the phosphorylated cofactors favored at lower

Variations in acceptability of heavy alcohol use and gender double standards across drinking cultures. A U.S.A. – Italy study

Journal of Ethnicity in Substance Abuse, 2021
Focus group data from 92 youths from Italy and the U.S.A. indicate that Italians and Americans differ in perceived threshold of acceptability of drinking to excess. Youth from the U.S.A.
