Photoacoustic effect as a liquid absorbance detector [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Optics, 1980
A theoretical treatment of the photoacoustic effect for a liquid enclosed in a cylindrical cell is given. Simple analytical expressions for the photoacoustic signal are derived for cw and pulse modulation schemes. Modulation frequency or pulse width dependence of the photoacoustic signal is discussed.

Generalized theory of the photoacoustic effect [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physics, 1976
The theory of the photoacoustic effect is extended to include the contribution of mechanical vibration of the sample. Coupled equations for thermal and acoustic waves are solved in both sample and gas. It is shown that the pressure signal in the gas may be significantly affected by acoustic coupling in the sample, and experimental confirmation of this ...
