[Laboratory photobioreactors].

Prikladnaia biokhimiia i mikrobiologiia, 2002
Growing phototrophic microorganisms consume the light energy. These microorganisms most often suffer from light deficiency because of exponential decrease in the energy of light passing through an absorbing medium. Therefore, effective distribution of light within the cultures is needed for their intensive cultivation.

Energy Considerations of Photobioreactors

2012
Microalgae have been proven to be a potential source for valuable compounds and fuels. However, photobioreactors are not optimized concerning economic aspects. The energy demand of the reactor could be in the same order of magnitude as the harvested incident solar irradiation stored as chemical energy bound in microalgal biomass.
