Phototherapy and photochemotherapy
Clinics in Dermatology, 2008Phototherapy, whose first application for psoriasis dates back to almost a century now, is still an actual mainstay of treatment. We discuss in detail the radiophysical aspects involved in the therapy, the different treatment modalities, and all aspects related to clinical application of phototherapy. By looking at new insights on the molecular mode of

Extracorporeal photochemotherapy
Journal of Dermatological Science, 2009Although extracorporeal photochemotherapy (ECP) is reported to be effective for a wide variety of diseases, such as cutaneous T cell lymphoma, autoimmune diseases, organ graft rejection, and graft versus host disease, its mechanism of action remains unclear. The basis of extracorporeal photopheresis is the reinfusion of leukocytes previously exposed to

Phototherapy and photochemotherapy
JDDG: Journal der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft, 2010SummaryThe treatment of skin diseases with ultraviolet radiation represents an important therapeutic modality in clinical dermatology, and the number of skin diseases that improve under the phototherapeutic modalities of today is still growing. While clinical phototherapy was originally based on empirical observations, our present understanding of the ...

Photopheresis (extracorporeal photochemotherapy)
Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences, 2012Photopheresis is a form of phototherapy where specialized equipment is used to isolate a leukocyte fraction from the peripheral blood which is then exposed to photoactivated 8-methoxypsoralen and reinfused into the patient. At the time of its invention the treatment was conceptually based on the hypothesis of T cell vaccination, i.e. the observation in

Photochemotherapy for Psoriasis
AJN, American Journal of Nursing, 1979want to take pictures of the psoriatic areas on your body." I (V.A.) stared in consternation at the handsome young man in front of me. Could I, a 68-year-old woman strip in front of him? Would my self-consciousness bar my participation in this research project? These questions, however, were completely subordinate to my reason for being there.

Photochemotherapy using pyridopsoralens
Biochimie, 1985Aiming to decrease the acute side effects and genotoxic hazards of PUVA, pyrido (3,4-C) psoralen (PP) and 7-methyl pyrido (3,4-C) psoralen (MPP) were synthesized and studied. Their UVA maximum absorption lies at 325 and 330 nm, respectively. Their photostability is comparable to that of 8-MOP.
