Bark‐associated yeasts and their potential role as tree carbon sink at the treeline of the southern Andes

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
In the southern Andes, Nothofagus pumilio shows elevational decreases in the concentrations of carbon reserves which are the food of bark‐associated yeasts, suggesting that competition for carbohydrates between tree growth and bark‐associated yeasts may cause carbon shortages.

Evaluation of the in vitro quality of X‐ray irradiated red cell concentrates processed and stored using di(2‐ethylhexyl) terephthalate plasticized blood bag sets

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Objectives Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) blood bags plasticized with di(2‐ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) have long been the standard for red blood cell (RBC) storage. Due to safety concerns, alternatives like di(2‐ethylhexyl) terephthalate (DEHT), in combination with next‐generation additive solutions like phosphate‐adenine‐glucose ...

Carotid artery dissection linked to intermittent apnoeic swimming: A case–control study

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Internal carotid artery (ICA) dissection is a rare and potentially devastating cause of cerebral ischaemia, initiated by an intimal tear or rupture of the vasa vasorum, that can lead to an intraluminal thrombus, vascular stenosis, occlusion, or dissecting aneurysm formation.

Effects of cold water immersion versus active recovery on oxidative stress, redox gene expression and mitochondrial adaptations after strength training

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract We compared the acute and chronic effects of postexercise cold water immersion (CWI) and active recovery (ACT) on oxidative stress, redox‐related gene expression, mitochondrial adaptations and muscle oxidative capacity. In a crossover study, nine males completed strength sessions, followed by either 10 min CWI or ACT.
