A Self‐Assembling Peptide with Nanoparticle‐to‐Fibril Transformation Exhibits Multimodal Antimicrobial Activity through Membrane Disruption and Quorum‐Sensing Inhibition

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A self‐assembling peptide that transforms from nanoparticles into bacterial‐entrapping nanofibrils and targets multi‐drug‐resistant pathogens through a dual mechanism. It disrupts bacterial membranes and strongly inhibits the quorum‐sensing system, a crucial factor in biofilm formation and virulence.

Nano‐laminography with a transmission X‐ray microscope

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
A full‐field, X‐ray nano‐laminography system implemented with the transmission X‐ray microscope at beamline 32‐ID of the upgraded Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory is demonstrated.Nano‐laminography combines the penetrating power of hard X‐rays with a tilted rotational geometry to deliver high‐resolution, three‐dimensional images of ...

Aridity and grazing are associated with reduced trait complementarity and higher invasion intensity of Solanum rostratum in native plant communities

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The biotic resistance hypothesis (BRH) of Elton posits that diverse communities are more resistant to biological invasions. While the effects of climatic stresses and human disturbances on community invasibility have been extensively studied individually, their combined

Light spectrum matters: Interactive effects of light and nutrients on phytoplankton communities and trophic transfer

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, EarlyView.
Overall, our results showed that the spectral quality of light has a significant impact on phytoplankton community dynamics and the biochemical composition of lake seston. Moreover, the results suggest that light intensity, light spectrum, and nutrients interactively act at the base of aquatic food webs with propagating effects to herbivores ...

Enhancing Late‐Life Survival and Mobility via Mitohormesis by Reducing Mitochondrial Calcium Levels

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
RNAi knockdown (KD) of mcu‐1 or mitoxantrone treatment lowers mitochondrial Ca2+, extends lifespan, and preserves motility during aging. Benefits require early intervention and involve a transient ROS increase that activates a pmk‐1, daf‐16, and skn‐1 pathway, enhancing stress defense and mitochondrial integrity while reducing early‐life survival ...
