Voxelwise characterization of noise for a clinical photon-counting CT scanner with a model-based iterative reconstruction algorithm

open access: yesEuropean Radiology Experimental
Background Photon-counting detector (PCD) technology has the potential to reduce noise in computed tomography (CT). This study aimed to carry out a voxelwise noise characterization for a clinical PCD-CT scanner with a model-based iterative reconstruction

Covalent Functionalization of 2D Semiconductors: A Roadmap to Advanced Electronic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Review presents recent advances in the covalent functionalization strategies for two‐dimensional semiconductors and their implementation in modern technologies. Layered materials are modified through diverse molecular chemistries (e.g., thiols, diazonium salts, alkyl halides, and electron‐deficient species) to tailor their surface properties ...

Compact-eight channel photon counting module with monolithic array detector

open access: yes, 2007
We present a multichannel photon counting module that exploits a monolithic array of single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs). The detector array consists of eight 50μm diameter SPADs featuring low dark counting rate and high photon detection efficiency ...

Quantitative dual contrast photon-counting computed tomography for assessment of articular cartilage health

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Photon-counting detector computed tomography (PCD-CT) is a modern spectral imaging technique utilizing photon-counting detectors (PCDs). PCDs detect individual photons and classify them into fixed energy bins, thus enabling energy selective imaging ...

A New Strategy for Creating Quantum Light Emitters Via Post‐Growth Hydrogen‐Ion Irradiation of III‐V Nanowires

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A post‐growth method is demonstrated to realize energy‐tunable quantum emitters in GaAs/GaAsN/GaAs core–multishell nanowires on a Si substrate. By combining the N‐induced bandgap reduction with H‐ion irradiation, the GaAsN potential landscape is engineered, enabling isolated, narrow emission lines that function as single‐photon sources with g(2)(0) ∼ 0.

Intracrystalline Void‐Mediated Toughening of Brittle Crystals in Quail Eggshells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In quail eggshells, the high density and disordered arrangement of intracrystalline voids inhibit lattice cleavage, suppress long‐range crack propagation, and promote deformation twinning and quasi‐plasticity, serving as an essential toughening motif. We show that these voids remain within a narrow subcritical size range and therefore predominantly do ...

Photon-counting x-ray detectors for CT

open access: yes, 2021
The introduction of photon-counting detectors is expected to be the next major breakthrough in clinical x-ray CT. During the last decade, there has been considerable research activity in the field of photon-counting CT, in terms of both hardware ...

Configuration‐Encoded Cell Alignment by Light‐Gated Silicon Photovoltaic Microcell Arrays

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Light‐gated silicon photovoltaic microcells convert pulsed illumination into localized electrical cues. Arranging otherwise similar microcells into four‐lobed, six‐lobed, or circular patterns directs fibroblasts into corresponding local arrangements without wired stimulation.

Advancing Aortic Dissection Imaging: First Clinical Experience of Photon-Counting CT with Ultra-Fast Spectral Imaging

open access: yesDiagnostics
Background: Computed tomography (CT) is the standard of reference for diagnosis and follow-up in aortic dissection (AD). Localizing the entry and identifying false and true lumen are as important as differing post-treatment changes from contrast media ...
