Information-theoretic perspective of photon-counting integral imaging

2011 10th Euro-American Workshop on Information Optics, 2011
Photon-counting integral imaging has been introduced recently and its applications in 3D object sensing, visualization, recognition and classification under photon-starved conditions have been demonstrated. This paper reviews the underlying information-theoretic foundation behind the observation that such complex tasks can be performed by means of ...

Resolution enhanced 3D photon counting integral imaging

Proceedings of SPIE, 2017
In this paper, we present a resolution enhanced 3D photon counting integral imaging system to improve the visual quality of the reconstructed 3D images. In order to solve the limitation of the visual quality cause by the photon starved condition, the statistical estimation algorithm based on the 3D imaging structure is proposed to estimate the high ...

Nonlinear correlation of photon-counting integral imaging

Proceedings of SPIE, 2017
Integral imaging (II) combined with photon-counting detection has been researched for three-dimensional (3D) information sensing under low-light-level condition. This paper addresses the nonlinear correlation of photon-counting integral imaging. The first and second order statistical properties of the nonlinear correlation are verified with varying the

Three-dimensional photon counting integral imaging using moving array lens technique

Optics Letters, 2012
In this Letter, we present three-dimensional (3D) photon counting integral imaging using the moving array-lens technique (MALT) to improve the visualization of a reconstructed 3D scene. In 3D scene reconstruction of photon counting integral imaging, various techniques such as maximum likelihood estimation may be used.

Limited-photon 3D image recognition using photon-counting integral imaging

Proceedings of SPIE, 2011
An overview of three-dimensional (3D) image recognition using photon-counting integral imaging is presented. A Poisson distribution model is used to generate photon-counting elemental images and reconstruct 3D images. Slices of 3D reconstructed images are the image source for recognition purpose.

Photon-counting three-dimensional integral imaging with compression of elemental images

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2012
In this paper, we present lossless compression of elemental images in photon-counting integral imaging. In order to verify the performance of the compression method applied to low light level three-dimensional (3D) integral imaging, we compute the correlation coefficient and peak to mean square error (PSNR) as metrics for 3D scene reconstruction ...

Orthographic projection images-based photon-counted integral Fourier holography

Applied Optics, 2019
Unlike coherent imaging techniques, light field imaging uses incoherent (white light) illumination to generate a digital hologram of three-dimensional (3D) objects in real time. Multiple projections (or elemental images) of a 3D object are captured using a microlens array attached to a digital camera.

Photon-counted integral holography using orthographic projection images

Unconventional Optical Imaging, 2018
Recently, a method for synthesizing a hologram of three dimensional (3D) objects from captured light field array is demonstrated. The 3D objects can be captured under incoherent light illumination using a micro lens array and their orthographic projection view images are generated from the captured elemental images.
