Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Atom devices based on single dopants in silicon nanostructures

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2011
Silicon field-effect transistors have now reached gate lengths of only a few tens of nanometers, containing a countable number of dopants in the channel.

Coherent generation of nonclassical light on chip via detuned photon blockade [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The on-chip generation of non-classical states of light is a key-requirement for future optical quantum hardware. In solid-state cavity quantum electrodynamics, such non-classical light can be generated from self-assembled quantum dots strongly coupled ...

Application of Raman and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy to MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Visible to near infrared luminescence of MgO is studied on MgO‐C bricks and nominally pure MgO powder, with focus on two similar sharp high‐intensity signals, at 699 and 871 nm, each surrounded by symmetrical sidebands. The nature of these sidebands is investigated by temperature‐dependent spectroscopic measurements, confirming phonon involvement by ...

Teste de tipo de um sistema de dosimetria TL para monitoração individual de fótons em Hp(10)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Radiation Sciences, 2018
Although regulated, the use of HP(10) to estimate the effective dose of photons has not yet been implemented in Brazil. The operational quantity used in the country, temporarily, is the photon dose equivalent (Hx).

Photon - Jet Correlations and Constraints on Fragmentation Functions

open access: yes, 2009
We study the production of a large-pT photon in association with a jet in proton-proton collisions. We examine the sensitivity of the jet rapidity distribution to the gluon distribution function in the proton.

Composition‐Tuned Enhancement of the Anomalous Nernst Effect in FeCo–Pt Thin Films on Rigid and Flexible Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Disordered (Fe50Co50)1−xPtx thin films exhibit a pronounced anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) with a strong composition dependence on both rigid and flexible substrates. The transverse thermoelectric response peaks near 22.5 at.% Pt, accompanied by enhanced αxy/σxy scaling, thermal transport, and ANE sensitivity.

Schrödinger electrons interacting with optical gratings: quantum mechanical study of the inverse Smith–Purcell effect

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2016
Slow swift electrons with low self-inertia interact differently with matter and light in comparison with their relativistic counterparts: they are easily recoiled, reflected, and also diffracted form optical gratings and nanostructures. As a consequence,

Multi-Channel Selective Femtosecond Coherent Control Based on Symmetry Properties

open access: yes, 2007
We present and implement a new scheme for extended multi-channel selective femtosecond coherent control based on symmetry properties of the excitation channels.

Topological photonics [PDF]

open access: yesNature Photonics, 2014
Topology is revolutionizing photonics, bringing with it new theoretical discoveries and a wealth of potential applications. This field was inspired by the discovery of topological insulators, in which interfacial electrons transport without dissipation even in the presence of impurities.
