Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Unveiling Exsolution‐Induced Giant Electronic and Magnetic Property Changes in Non‐Stoichiometric Titanate Perovskite Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A giant insulator to metal transition and emergent superparamagnetism are revealed by nanoparticle exsolution in non‐stoichiometric titanate perovskite thin films. By combining transport, synchrotron spectroscopy, and first‐principles calculations, this work reveals how defect reconfiguration and lattice reconstruction fundamentally reshape electronic ...

Silicon Single Photon Avalanche Diodes: Situation and Prospect

open access: yes, 2007
Photon counting was introduced and developed during four decades relying on Photomultiplier Tubes (PMT), but interesting alternatives are nowadays provided by solid-state single-photon microdetectors. In particular, Silicon Single-Photon Avalanche-Diodes

New constraint-less methodology to avoid distortion at any speed in time correlated single photon counting

open access: yes
Time Correlated Single Photon Counting (TCSPC) has been historically subject to the count-rate vs distortion tradeoff. Several attempts to work around this limitation have been reported in the literature, either based on multichannel systems or on post ...

An Underwater Multi-User Communication System Using Photomultiplier-Tube-Based Photon Detector With Dead-Time Effect and Shot Noise

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal
We investigate detection for practical photon-counting receivers in underwater optical wireless communication (UOWC) systems, where dead-time effects and multi-user interference (MUI) pose significant challenges.

Stimuli‐Responsive Hierarchical Structuring Controls Survival and Programs Hydrogelation of Supramolecular Metallofibers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Aqueous Zn(II) Salphen metallofibers decorated with PNIPAM undergo reversible, multi‐stimuli‐responsive hierarchical bundling. This higher‐order structuring kinetically stabilizes the otherwise fragile assemblies against dilution, acidic hydrolysis, and transmetallation, enables selective sorting of responsive fibers, and programs hydrogelation at ...

Fractal superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors and their applications in polarimetric imaging

open access: yes
In this paper, we review the research and development of the fractal superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs), including our demonstrations of high-performance devices and systems with over 80% system detection efficiency, negligibly low

Modeling the encoding structure and spatial resolution of photon counting imagers with Vernier anode readout

open access: yes, 2016
We present the spatial resolution estimation methods for a photon counting system with a Vernier anode. A limiting resolution model is provided according to discussions of surface encoding structure and quantized noise.

Asymmetric Lamellar Templating of the Perovskite/C60 Interface for Scalable Inverted Perovskite Photovoltaics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Asymmetric lamellar templating at the perovskite/C60 interface is achieved using a laterally polarized indole spacer. Surface anchoring and Ind–Ind assembly form a π‐rich lamellar interphase that supports uniform C60 contact formation, suppresses recombination, preserves electron extraction, and enables certified high‐efficiency cells and modules with ...

Single-photon counting detectors for diffraction-limited light sources

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
When first introduced, single-photon counting detectors reshaped crystallography at synchrotrons. Their fast readout speed enabled, for example, shutter-less data collection and fine slicing of the rotation angle and boosted the development of new ...
