Theory of the two-photon micromaser: Photon statistics

Physical Review A, 1990
Exact results for the photon statistics of a two-photon micromaser are presented, including the effect of finite detuning of the intermediate level. A periodic dependence on interaction times is shown to arise for large detunings, when sufficiently long interaction times are considered. Some typical photon-number distributions are shown, including some

Nonclassical photon statistics

Physical Review A, 2006
Some nonclassical properties of a particular state of light are demonstrated by computing the Wigner function. A quantum model of generating this state is proposed. A criterion called the distance variation difference is introduced to measure how far any state is from its corresponding coherent state.

Photon statistics of twisted heralded single photons

Journal of Modern Optics, 2019
We study the correlation properties of single photons carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) in a Hanbury Brown and Twiss (HBT) type experiment.

Hyper-Poisson Photon Statistics

JETP Letters, 2020
The statistical distribution for the number of bosons in a specified subsystem of a finite-dimensional multilevel system is obtained and investigated under conditions for which the total number of particles is a random variable characterized by the Poisson distribution.

Photon statistics of the two-photon micromaser

Optics Communications, 1990
We have studied the two-photon micro-maser by solving exactly the equation of motion for a single-mode field in a cavity coupled to a two-photon transition in a three-level cascade atomic system, where detuning of the intermediate level is arbitrary. We find that the dependence of the first two moments of the steady state photon number distribution on ...

Photon statistics

2006
Abstract The task of quantum optics is to study the consequences of considering a beam of light as a stream of photons rather than as a classical wave. It turns out that the differences are rather subtle, and we have to look quite hard to see significant departures from the predictions of the classical theories.

NONTRIVIAL PHOTON STATISTICS WITH LOW RESOLUTION-THRESHOLD PHOTON COUNTERS

International Journal of Quantum Information, 2007
We address the reconstruction of photon statistics using realistic photodetectors having low quantum efficiency and finite resolution as photon counters. Using a maximum-likelihood method, based on measurements taken at different quantum efficiencies, we experimentally reconstruct the nontrivial photon statistics of the state obtained by mixing at a ...

Photon statistics in two-photon linear amplifiers

Optics Communications, 1995
Abstract An analytical form of the general solution of the Fokker-Planck equation is given for the two-photon linear amplifier. With use of the general solution photon statistics are investigated for the amplified field by the two-photon linear amplifier. Unlike a phase-insensitive amplifier, the phase-sensitive two-photon linear amplifier can reduce

Photon Statistics of a Single Photon Source

2003
We report on the realization of a single photon source relying on the pulsed excitation of a single organic molecule at room temperature, and the study of its intensity fluctuations over 4 orders of magnitude of the observation time scale. On time scale of a few excitation periods, sub-poissonian statistics is clearly observed and the probability of ...

Photon Statistics of Semiconductor Microcavity Lasers

Physical Review Letters, 2007
We present measurements of first- and second-order coherence of quantum-dot micropillar lasers together with a semiconductor laser theory. Our results show a broad threshold region for the observed high-beta microcavities. The intensity jump is accompanied by both pronounced photon intensity fluctuations and strong coherence length changes.
