Analysis of several VERA benchmark problems with the photon transport capability of STREAM

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2022
STREAM - a lattice transport calculation code with method of characteristics for the purpose of light water reactor analysis - has been developed by the Computational Reactor Physics and Experiment laboratory (CORE) of the Ulsan National Institute of ...

Experimental Proof of a Solar-Powered Heat Pump System for Soil Thermal Stabilization

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
We suggested earlier a new sustainable method for permafrost thermal stabilization that combines passive screening of solar radiation and precipitation with active solar-powered cooling of the near-surface soil layer thus preventing heat penetration in ...

Transport in Sawtooth photonic lattices [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2016
We investigate, theoretically and experimentally, a photonic realization of a Sawtooth lattice. This special lattice exhibits two spectral bands, with one of them experiencing a complete collapse to a highly degenerate flat band for a special set of inter-site coupling constants.

Fiber transport of spatially entangled photons [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2011
Entanglement in the spatial degrees of freedom of photons is an interesting resource for quantum information. For practical distribution of such entangled photons it is desireable to use an optical fiber, which in this case has to support multiple transverse modes.

A laser–plasma platform for photon–photon physics: the two photon Breit–Wheeler process

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2021
We describe a laser–plasma platform for photon–photon collision experiments to measure fundamental quantum electrodynamic processes. As an example we describe using this platform to attempt to observe the linear Breit–Wheeler process.

Parallelized Monte Carlo Photon Transport Simulations for Arbitrary Multi-Angle Wide-Field Illumination in Optoacoustic Imaging

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
Optoacoustic imaging (OAI) or photoacoustic imaging can resolve the distribution of tissue chromophores and optical contrast agents deep inside tissue from the optoacoustic detection with multi-spectral illumination.

Photon transport in binary photonic lattices

open access: yesPhysica Scripta, 2013
We present a review on the mathematical methods used to theoretically study classical propagation and quantum transport in arrays of coupled photonic waveguides. We focus on analysing two types of binary photonic lattices where self-energies or couplings are alternated.

A New Monte Carlo Method for Time-Dependent Neutrino Radiation Transport [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Monte Carlo approaches to radiation transport have several attractive properties compared to deterministic methods. These include simplicity of implementation, high accuracy, and good parallel scaling.

Photon bubble turbulence in cold atom gases

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Photon bubble turbulence is an astrophysical phenomenon involving radiation transport. Here, the authors report analogous behavior in ultracold gas by observing signatures of photon bubble instabilities in Rb atoms trapped in a MOT.
