Light exiting from real photonic band gap crystals is diffuse and strongly directional [PDF]
Any photonic crystal is in practice periodic with some inevitable fabricational imperfections. We have measured angle-resolved transmission of photons that are multiply scattered by this disorder in strongly photonic crystals.

Chiral Phase Change Nanomaterials
This work demonstrates reversible, non‐volatile phase transitions in chiral Ge2${\rm Ge}_2$Sb2${\rm Sb}_2$Te5${\rm Te}_5$ (GST) nanohelices for high‐speed optical modulation of chirality and dynamic control of the state of polarization (SOP). The chiral nanostructures are fabricated using a highly directional, wafer‐scale physical vapor deposition ...

Development of hollow-core photonic bandgap fibres free of surface modes
Conventional optical fibres can only guide light in a high refractive index core by total internal reflection. By using total internal reflections it is not possible to guide light in an air core.

A design strategy using Photonic Band Gap (PBG) structure on ground plane to achieve wider bandwidth for patch antenna is presented. It is found that, the impedance bandwidth has improved from 3.72% to 31.9% at centre frequency 9 GHz after adding PBG on ...

Design of a three-dimensional photonic band gap cavity in a diamondlike inverse woodpile photonic crystal [PDF]
We theoretically investigate the design of cavities in a three-dimensional (3D) inverse woodpile photonic crystal. This class of cubic diamondlike crystals has a very broad photonic band gap and consists of two perpendicular arrays of pores with a ...

This work developed a smart Janus wood membrane integrating asymmetric wettability with built‐in electrical sensing for oil‐water separation. The membrane achieved > 99.5% separation efficiency and high flux by leveraging wood's natural anisotropic pore structure.

Calculation of photonic band-gap of one dimensional photonic crystal
Photonic crystal is a composite dielectric with periodic modulation of refractive index that brings about unique photonic band-gap effect by which light could be totally reflected on the surface of such material regardless of any incident angle or mode ...

Hollow core fiber with an octave spanning bandgap [PDF]
We thoroughly compare the out-of-plane bandgaps generated by three realistic two-dimensional lattices: a triangular and a square arrangement of holes and a triangular arrangement of rods.

Hollow-core photonic band gap fibers for particle acceleration
Photonic band gap (PBG) dielectric fibers with hollow cores are being studied both theoretically and experimentally for use as laser driven accelerator structures. The hollow core functions as both a longitudinal waveguide for the transverse-magnetic (TM)

Metasurfaces and other structured photonic environments can dramatically modify the absorption and/or light emission of semiconductors. However, the consequences of these changes on the temperature of the system are not well understood. The authors address this problem for colloidal nanocrystals and leverage their findings to convert light into ...
