Photonic crystals and silicon photonics

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
Recent important advances in subwavelength nanostructures offer extraordinary control over the properties of light. We can now manipulate the propagation, storage, and generation of light, as well as practically prescribe its matter interaction properties based on first-principles.

Photonic crystal fibres

Proceedings of 2005 7th International Conference Transparent Optical Networks, 2005., 2005
Photonic crystal fibers exhibit physical features, from various angles, more versatile, intriguing and promising than those pertaining to the conventional optical fibers. Their cross-section can be optimized to obtain single mode operation on a wide wavelength range, soliton propagation, regeneration application, controllable group velocity dispersion.

Photonic crystals and silicon photonics

2008 International Nano-Optoelectronics Workshop, 2008
Photonic crystals and silicon photonics have dramatically reduced the size of photonic devices to a micron scale and added unique functionalities such as slow light and negative refraction. They will increase the feasibility of large scale photonic integration if lll-V devices are smartly combined with Si platform.

Photonic crystal lens for Photonic Crystal waveguide coupling

2006 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and 2006 Quantum Electronics and Laser Science Conference, 2006
We propose a method for the optimization of photonic crystal lenses. Based on optimized lens designs we demonstrate efficient coupling into a photonic crystal waveguide. Details of ongoing experimental realization are discussed.

An Introduction to Photonic Crystals

1996
During the past five years, there has emerged a new class of materials called photonic band gap materials or, more simply, photonic crystals. The underlying concept behind these materials stems from early notions by Yablonovitch [1] and John [2]. In a nutshell, the basic idea is to design materials so they can effect the properties of photons in much ...

Photonic crystals and photonic structures

Current Opinion in Solid State and Materials Science, 1999
This paper reviews the state-of-the-art of photonic band gap materials, addressing separately the spectral ranges of microwaves and optics. In the microwave domain, applications seem to emerge in particular, thanks to the recent breakthrough of metallo-dielectric structures.

Photonic crystal devices

The 16th Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2003. LEOS 2003., 2004
In this presentation we will discuss photonic crystal lasers and waveguide components. We have demonstrated both suspended membrane and sapphire-bonded photonic crystal microcavity lasers. These devices are optically pumped at and above room temperature.
