Fano resonances of photonic crystal slabs
ACOFT/AOS 2006 - Australian Conference on Optical Fibre Technology/Australian Optical Society, 2006A Bloch mode theory for diffraction of plane waves by planar PC slabs is developed. The theory provides physical insight into the origin of Fano resonances, allowing a simple pole model to be deduced rigorously.

Linear waveguides in photonic-crystal slabs
Physical Review B, 2000Linear waveguides in photonic-crystal slabs, two-dimensionally periodic dielectric structures of finite height, are fundamentally different from waveguides in two-dimensional photonic crystals. The most important distinctions arise from the fact that photonic-crystal slab waveguides must be index-confined in the vertical direction ~while a band gap ...

Photonic crystal slab quantum cascade detector
Applied Physics Letters, 2013In this Letter, we demonstrate the design, fabrication, and characterization of a photonic crystal slab quantum cascade detector (PCS-QCD). By employing a specifically designed resonant cavity, the performance of the photodetector is improved in three distinct ways. The PCS makes the QCD sensitive to surface normal incident light.

Photonic crystal slab with layered elements
SPIE Proceedings, 2011Abstract We introduce the simulation of a photonic crystal slab with a square lattice, whose basis elements are layered cylinders of an averaged refractive index . We compare it with a similar photonic crystal with a basis of the same size and a refractive index matching to the average of the layered ones.

Tunable one-dimensional photonic crystal slabs
SPIE Proceedings, 2007A 1D photonic crystal slab based on preferential etching of commercially available silicon-on-insulator wafers is presented. Compared to dry etching, anisotropic wet etching is more tolerant to errors as it is self-stopping on crystallographic {111} planes and it produces a more precise geometry with symmetries and homothetic properties, with surface ...
