Finite-difference time-domain calculation of the spontaneous-emission coupling factor in optical microcavities [PDF]
We present a general method for the β factor calculation in optical microcavities. The analysis is based on the classical model for atomic transitions in a semiconductor active medium.

Theory of intrinsic propagation losses in topological edge states of planar photonic crystals
Using a semianalytic guided-mode expansion technique, we present theory and analysis of intrinsic propagation losses for topological photonic crystal slab waveguide structures with modified honeycomb lattices of circular or triangular holes.

Room temperature photonic crystal defect lasers at near-infrared wavelengths in InGaAsP [PDF]
Room temperature lasing from optically pumped single defects in a two-dimensional (2-D) photonic bandgap (PBG) crystal is demonstrated. The high-Q optical microcavities are formed by etching a triangular array of air holes into a half-wavelength thick ...

Second-Order Nonlinear Mixing of Two Modes in a Planar Photonic Crystal Microcavity
Polarization-resolved second-harmonic spectra are obtained from the resonant modes of a two-dimensional planar photonic crystal microcavity patterned in a free-standing InP slab.

Sensitivity enhancement in photonic crystal slab biosensors
Refractive index sensitivity of guided resonances in photonic crystal slabs is analyzed. We show that modal properties of guided resonances strongly affect spectral sensitivity and quality factors, resulting in substantial enhancement of refractive index sensitivity.

Design and analysis of 1:2 line optical decoder based on linear optics
In this paper, a simple design of all-optical photonic crystal (PhC) based 1:2 line decoder has been proposed and its operating principle is based on light beam interference. The designed structure has a hexagonal arrangement of air holes in Si substrate

A Photonic Crystal Slab Laplace Differentiator
We introduce an implementation of a Laplace differentiator based on a photonic crystal slab that operates at transmission mode. We show that the Laplace differentiator can be implemented provided that the guided resonances near the $\Gamma$ point exhibit

High Entropy Wide‐Bandgap Borates with Broadband Luminescence and Large Nonlinear Optical properties
High‐entropy rare‐earth borates exhibit excellent nonlinear optical and broadband luminescence properties arising from multi‐component doping, chemical disorder, increased configurational entropy, and increased lattice and electronic anharmonicity. This formulation enabled us to obtain a large, environmentally stable single crystal with 3X higher laser‐

Optical Microcavities Clad by Low-Absorption Electrode Media
Four types of high-Q optical microcavities - disk, 1-D photonic crystal nanobeam, 2-D photonic crystal slab, and 3-D photonic crystal optical microresonators - clad by low-optical-loss electrode media such as indium tin oxide are designed and evaluated ...
